Is it just me or are their certain styles of beer more accessible in certain locations?

For example, went to Seattle for a Mt. Rainer climbing trip and for a 7 days I drank a delicious variety of IPA/DIPAs from various pubs. Or when I went to a wedding in Indiana, I had some amazing stouts. However living in Pittsburgh (yes I know our laws suck) I can't find any good sours or farmhouse to save my life.

Really my point (or question) is two-fold: Are there locations where certain beer styles are more accessible?
.........And what area of the US do you prefer to drink beer from?

Here in central New York your be hard pressed to find many barrel aged beers in stores. Not that they sell out quickly. They just don't seem to be carried here.
