I was hoping to get your help on getting suggestions on what beer to get for my boyfriend. I'm planning on stocking up the beer fridge with about 30 beers of varying types, but I don't know much about beer, so I wasn't sure where to start. His favourite is the Fat Tug, but when out at places that don't have a huge selection of beer, he gets Steamwhistle or Keiths. Any recommendations on what else he might like would be so appreciated!! thank you!
Go to your husband's favourite liquor store, ask if the "beer guy/gal" is around, give them the info you just gave us and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you put together a nice selection.
Given the information you have given, I would ask the beer guy at your local LCBO for a selection of good IPA's and pilsner's I don't know if you'll get 30 different kinds from one lcbo but you'll definitely get a nice selection. My guess if he like Fat Tug you could probably venture into Double IPA's (stronger version of IPA's) to see what he thinks. They will have more flavor and a higher alcohol content so he would drink less at one time if he did like them. Hope That helps!
If in Toronto try Bellwoods. They have their Monogamy IPA out right now. Roman Candle and Jutsu are also great and available right now. http://bellwoodsbrewery.com/product-category/bottleshop/ Blood Brothers Brewing has their Shumei IPA available right now as well. http://www.bloodbrothersbrewing.com/ Great Lakes Brewing makes some great IPAs as well. Thrust and Octopus wants to fight are pretty great.http://greatlakesbeer.com/ Cheers!
To add to the already great suggestions, you might give Rainhard Brewing a try. They are in the Junction, and he might like their their pale ales and IPAs (Armed & Citra, Kapow!, Lazy Bones): http://rainhardbrewing.com/the-bottle-shop/ Also Left Field Brewing just south of the Danforth off Greenwood (Maris, Prospect series IPAs when available). http://www.leftfieldbrewery.ca/ As with Bellwoods suggested above, the beers at these breweries are, for the most part available only at the brewery. For some beers at the LCBO, you can check out Nickel Brook Head Stock IPA and Naughty Neighbour. Also, Amsterdam Fracture, Boneshaker and Cruiser. If he likes Steam Whistle, he should try Amsterdam Starke Pils. Great Lakes Brewing's Octopus Wants to Fight, Thrust!, Lake Effect, Karma Citra and Canuck would be great ideas too, as already mentioned. Let us know how it goes. Cheers!
