Beer surprises.

I strolled into a well known bottle shop in my town and there was Duchesse de Bourgogne sittin casually on the shelf. That was my most recent "holy shit" beer moment.

 

That actually hard to get? I've seen it a bunch where I go.

 

I had that happen this week. I was picking up a few sixes for the weekend, when lo and behold, I found Brooklyn Black Ops sitting on the shelf. I had never seen it here in MD before, so I snagged one.

 

I dont see the holy shit in this. To the OP that is amazing, I would love to be able to get a 4 pack of KBS right now.

 

you need to get out more ,a good brew but widely available

I had one last night and it is already tasting way better than when it first came out. I didn't see the potential for cellaring but it's definitely there and could be a major surprise to most fans of previous years editions.

 

curious Bill why would you not see the potential for say a year or two in the cellar?

 

Damn, never had one of these to put into a thread til recently.

From buying 4 paks in two separate stores I rarely shop, one of which barely carries Goose Island, the other that doesn't carry it at all, I ended up with a case and a half of most recent BCBS. It was a bit rough price wise, avg. 6.50 a bottle, but not the highest price I saw, and my reg. stores had 1 4 pak limits.

 

I thought Deschutes might have over compensated for the 2009 going down the wrong trail and fresh 2011 did not impress me like earlier years did. I'm happy as punch the 2011 is doing this good before the best after date, August 2012, and I now *think* it will go 1, 2, or maybe more years...

 

Went to Tennessee a few weeks back and noticed that they had Sweetwater brews everywhere. I had heard of them but didn't know they were so damn good. The IPA is amazing!

While travelling through Jersey, I went to a strip mall for some Thai Food. I happened into the liquor store next door and they had a 2010 Black Ops sitting on the shelf. Made my day!

 

It's a great beer and I'm glad you got to try it. It is fairly widely available, but distribution varies everywhere.

 

I found a 2007 Avery Mephistopheles Stout sitting next a 2009 DFH WWS sitting next to checkout counter at a gas station! It's actually a Hess in Rochester, NY which has an extremely large beer area, but still, those were great surprises.

 

Cantillon Bio Geuze on the shelf. was pretty stoked!
