I'm in a minority around here, I like my beer cold, from the start to the end. I have a fairly limited palate, so I don't pick up any flavors I don't get right away. Mouthfeel is pretty important to me, and temperature is a big part of it. I generally try to finish my beers before they get too warm, and I find "cellar temp" too warm.

I appreciate all the responses. I'm a little surprised at the hatred towards koozies! I'll leave that for another post...

    2. Yes, I definitely prefer a chilled beer (not cold) so as it approaches room temp, I drink a lot faster.
    3. Generally tailgates or BBQs

I've seen multiple threads that were inquiring as to what temperature people like to drink their beer. For me the style of the beer makes a big difference in this matter. Beers in which the alcohol taste is very strong, such as Barleywines, strong Belgians, Russian stouts and Imperial stouts i will put in the freezer for a good ten minutes (on top of being refrigerated), because i think cold doesn't diminish malt flavors but it does lessen the bite of the alcohol, which i think can lessen the other, more complex flavors.
Stronger IPA's DIPA's/ Imperial IPA's i will put in the freezer for just a couple of minutes, i think that they are comprised of a lot of different flavors and hop flavors can be easily drowned out by cold, but i think the extra cold adds a level of refreshment that would otherwise be lacking.
Pale Ales, Session IPA's, and very fruity IPA's i typically like halfway to room temperature, to bring out the complexity, the same goes with pilsners. Stouts, Brown ales,Wheat beers, lagers, and ambers i tend to like at regular refrigeration temp (35f-40f). Having said that, the first time i try something i will usually just drink it right out of the fridge. What about the rest of you?

For me, generally the higher the ABV the closer to room temp I prefer the beer. I usually start out at fridge temps with all beers, but take my time even getting to my first sip with imperial stouts, barleywines etc. I like my IPAs pretty cold as the hops profile seems to change in a negative way as the beer warms. Belgian beers seem to be very tolerant of wide temperature changes for some reason.

Stouts in the freezer? ! I wouldn't dream of chilling a good strong stout. For me the complex flavours of a dark beer are best left to develop at room temperature, only pale beers get chilled for me - but I do agree that a really hoppy IPA can be best enjoyed when super-chilled.

I don't always drink a brew straight from the fridge. I will select a bottle, let it sit out for about ten to fifteen minutes. Then I usually sip it for about an hour per 12 ounce serving. That's with all styles. Belgians are an exception. Most Belgian brewers will state what temp to drink their beer at on the bottle.

3 It's just not as important to me as it was when I was drinking the common domestics. They tend toward vile tasting once they warm up. I do like IPAs and strong ales a bit colder, but if a little sumpin' sumpin' gets a bit warm it still tastes good. The Stouts and Spiced Ales I've tried are fine cool.
If I find a Kozy that fits my glassware I'll buy it. As it is now I just don't take beer out side. It's been a few degrees either side of 110f since the last of May.

    Depends on the style.

At the pool or beach only.

    2) Kinda maybe, I don't like it super cold but I don't like it warm either.
    3) Koozie when I'm out playing disc golf or golf, or yard work.

    2. I prefer beer to stay in the 40-45 degree range regardless of the style and it allows me to drink at whatever pace I want to. If I open a bomber the bottle goes back into the fridge until I'm ready for another pour. I still don't know how anyone can drink beer at room temperature, because it turns into a fucking boozy mess regardless of the style as far as I'm concerned.
    3. I might use a koozie if I'm at the lake drinking from a can, otherwise it's in a glass and if I don't have access to a glass I'll drink it straight from the bottle.

    2. Yes.
    3. No. Just a frosted Pint Mug

I like ALL my drinks Ice Cold. Water, diet soda, milk, beer and cocktails all must be ice cold. It's very hot here in IE SoCal. Drinks get warm very quickly and I can't stand that. So, frosted mug is a must for me.

Hate on me if you want, but I get the best of both worlds. I get ice cold beer and then warmer beer when the high heat warms the glass. I get different tastes from my beer, first cold then warm and I just love that.

    1. all my bought beer starts out a frig temp, usually. keg Hb is about 38f. If its a dark beer that taste better warm, then I let it do that. but It depends. some days that first sip hits the spot and I can drink it all down in darn near 1 pull. depends on the ABV. type of beer etc. there is no 1 answer here.

    2. 1 effects 2, rare that I am drink so slowly a beer gets hot. if outside, drinking more than 1, I might drink faster. Still if its a sipper, then well it going to get near room temp. the key here if a beer taste bad at room temp, I am not likely to drink it colder anyway....at not more than once.

    3. no, its in a mug.

I hold glasses by stems to prevent too much warming. But other than that the only thing that matters for me is serving temp
