Hey everyone! I have a friend traveling to North Carolina for a couple weeks. Are there any beers worth lugging back that would be new to us in MN? He didn't really know what to look for and will be frequenting liquor stores.

Can be six packs or bombers, just looking for good local stuff and ones out of our distro that you may be more knowledgable about.

    Thanks in advance!

He'll be in Charleston and Charlotte! And thanks for the site! I just don't know as much about what is considered the good local scene there

There is SO much he could bring. Definitely fresh Hop Drop from NoDa in Charlotte.

if he will be traveling between Charleston and Charlotte then Asheville would be within that drive I think. Just about anything from Wicked Weed. NoDa Hop Drop and Westbrooke Gose are the 2 I always pickup when traveling to NC. The Westbrook Mexican Cake release has not been announced yet but his timing could be right around when it hits distro? Westbrook is just outside of Charleston (the one in SC) but they distribute to NC.

I don't know that much about what bottle shops are in the area but I always have good success with hitting up the Total Wine in Charlotte.

if he is driving between Charleston and Charlotte, Asheville is definitely NOT within that drive. He should head over to Brawleys and pick up whatever local stuff they have in stock. Folks there are smart and will help him if he asks for some NC 'highlight' beers.

if he is talking about Charleston (NC) then Asheville is definitely en route between there are Charlotte. If he is referring to Charleston, CS then you are correct. I assumed NC based on his thread title. [IMG]

excellent point. I assumed he was talking about SC, but if he is talking about NC he definitely needs to stop in Asheville.

You can get Wicked Weed stuff all around NC, not just in Asheville. Come on guys, you all know this.

Does this mean that Jefferson Davis never ordered opening fire on Fort Sumter? I wish that it was true!

Never heard of Charleston, NC either but that's what Google returned. Wonder if they will pay a $1 million error fee?

How available is HDnR? I am driving a rental car into charlotte today, dropping the car off at the airport and taking a cab to the omni. Do you guys think i could find some hop drop within walking distance from the omni? (E. Trade street and S. College) or should i try to make a stop and grab some beer before i drop the rental off. Ill keep my eyes open for some wicked weed also. Any bottle shop recomendations would be great! I was hoping to hit up saludnoda and possible the NoDa brewery, but it looks like i won't have any extra time to stop at those spots. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm driving in from charelston SC if that helps. Thanks!

Just did a little googling and found the craft tasting room and growler shop is about a mile from the omni, so that would be doable. Anyone have any info on this spot?

can't say that I do, but you also might want to check out Good Bottle. Should be pretty easy to get to from 77. Close to downtown as well.

If he's in Hickory, he definitely needs to stop at Olde Hickory Station or Hops & Grapes and grab a bottle of OHB Omega Point. It's an absolute beast of a barleywine.
