Question for fellow BAs in the south. I won a bet with a buddy who lives in the Chattanooga area and he has to send me some beer that I can't get in my area, which is SW Pennsylvania. I know it's not exactly a hot bed for craft beer, but I wanted to see if anyone might have some recs for what I could/should ask for that I can't get in my neck of the woods.
He will also have easy access to Georgia beers as well at Beverage World in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA a suburb of Chattanooga. 21st Amendment and Westbrook distribute to GA. Terrapin and Monday Night are GA breweries whose beers are good as well. You could also check seekabrew.com and compare your state with GA and TN.
Westbrook was my first thought, but I didn't know if there was something truly local to that area that I should ask for. We have Terrapin and 21st Amendment coming out of our ears up in Pennsylvania.
I did visit a downtown brewery in Chattanooga about 5 years ago. We sipped a few pints in the restaurant, nice ambience with warehouse-renovation appeal, two-story ceilings and it seemed family friendly too, with lots of kids running around. I wish I could vouch for certain *what* exactly appealed to me about their beer, it was Big River Grille & Brew-works; I only recall that the beau and I enjoyed it enough to take a couple of growlers with us to his cousin's in nearby Ducktown TN. Even though I am not finding a lot of reviews on BA for this product beyond "Good" ranking, I doubt you could go wrong with them to start with. Since their stuff is in cans acc to their website, this would hopefully be ideal to pack & ship to you. Then maybe see if your friend can tell you more about Moccasin Bend Brewing and whether they are bottling; I couldn't say for certain based on their web page.
Thanks for the info @A_Frayed_Knot He doesn't know much about beer so I'm probably just gonna make him drive over into Georgia, get me some Westbrook stuff and call it a day.
Moccasin Bend is still draft only but can be found at growler fill stores. They make the best beers of the local breweries IMO. Having him grab you some Westbrook is easiest. Gose might still be out there.
Not sure how much the local Nashville breweries distribute in Chatty, but Yazoo Sue is one to look for that they should be able to find. Might be a blackstone Black Belle floating around. Not sure if CSB is distributed there yet. If getting westbrook, have him look for the Gose
Been several time and the Nooga does not have a ton of great beer. They get some Terrapin, but you would have to drive over into GA to get more. I have been to a few of the local brew pubs and was not impressed.
