I'm heading out to LA(west Hollywood) on Friday to Tuesday. I was wondering on what beers I should look for on tap and bottles to go? I'm from Arizona we get a good amount of California beer. Some beers that I can't get are 21s Amendment, Allagash, Almanac, Alpine, Avery, Cascade, Drake's, Elysian, FiftyFifty, Hair of the Dog,Jester King, Kern River, Midnight Sun, Russian River, Victory, and Upright.
No 21A or Elysian here in the Southland, but all the others are avaiable to different degrees (Alpine if you're willing to drive). Allagash, Avery, Drake's and Victory are very easy to get, should be at any good beer store at least in Orange County, but LA should be the same. Jester King is certainly getting more available while Kern River is getting less available, but still around JO bombers aren't as easy to come by as they once were.
We don't get 21st Amendment or Elysian in LA, and Almanac or Cascade are tough to come by. Everything else you mentioned though is solid and reasonably obtainable - personally, I would say you can't go wrong with Alpine, Russian River, Drake's and Kern River. In WeHo, you definitely want to stop by the Surly Goat on Santa Monica Blvd for a great tap selection (from your brewery list, they currently have Russian River Pliny & Redemption and Drake's the Shizzle. If you haven't had Taps barleywine or Ballast Point Tongue Buckler, those are also on and are delicious). To go, there's a few Whole Foods around the area that will have reasonable beer selections. If you drive a little further to Wally's in West LA, you'll have an excellent selection that should have you covered. If you go the other direction (east) to Hollywood, K & L is solid and will be one of the few places you may be able to find Almanac bottles to go. And if you do go to Hollywood, be sure to stop by Blue Palms for a great draft selection.
There are some 21st Amendment cans at K&L Wine in Hollywood. Almanac beers have been spotted at various BevMo stores in the area.
Sorry to give you the hard time. Bruery "Fruet" would be a fine trophy to take home, and it's around. Will set you back $30, though.
Only if you're lucky and willing to drive around from Long Beach to Riverside. It's pretty rare and not easy to find.
