    Hey Gents,

I just got engaged last weekend, and my friends are champing at the bit to start planning the bachelor party.

I was thinking about doing a beer tour, as i did a bourbon tour a couple years ago, and that was fun. Im in minnesota, as are most of the others, but people will be coming in from NYC, Chicago, and a couple other places.

I was thinking SoCal is an easy bet, but Oregon might be easier and potentially more fun since we can mix in wilderness stuff. Probably a long weekend (3 days).

Anyone want to give their 2 cents on this, or any ideas?

    Cheers!

So much good stuff in San Diego, it's my favorite beer city. Another thought would be to go to Northern California. Hit places like Toronado SF and Russian River and then camp out at the Booneville Beerfest. If you're not familiar, it's Woodstock for beer geeks. The night before the fest is insane and the festival itself is epic with unlimited pours of killer beers. Lots to do in 3 days, but you guys sound game!

    Congratulations!

VT! Beer speaks for itself, you can do the wilderness stuff and head up to Montreal for party time.

Chicago/Southwest Michigan. Goose Island, Bell's, Founder's - just to name a few. My brother is getting married in February, and he's considering this very trip for his bachelor party.

    Congratulations!

I actually am going to Portland for my bachelor party. I am originally from Southern California, so many of my friends live there. I decided to go to Portland since it is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. and it is not just because of beer. Obviously my opinion is go to Oregon, but I even admit I have a bias opinion since I go to Southern California to visit family and friends multiple times a year. You can't go wrong either way.

My friend just got married this past June. As his best man, I planned his bachelor party. I rented a house in Kernville here in California for a weekend. Kern River Brewing Company is in town, along with some of the best white water rafting you'll find anywhere. There was 12 of us in our group. We rafted all day, then had dinner and world class beers at night at the brewery. We then took growlers and bottles back to the house. We invited some "special guests" to join us at the house, and everyone had a great time.

If you're planning on having your bachelor party in the spring time, I strongly recommend Kernville. It's a cool town, and a great little get-away. Have fun, and congrats!

With three days to spend on this journey, I would recommend a trip to Chicago. Eight hundred mile round trip, good beers (brewpubs) and on a Great Lake. What more do you need? Duluth.

I agree with Portland or Chicago. Both have more great beer places than you can possibly hit in a bachelor party weekend. Both have amazing food. Both have good public transport. Portland is well-known for its "gentlemens' clubs" if that's your thing. I'm not sure about Chicago's offerings in that regard.

Edit: Just realized you have people coming in from Chicago for this, and I'm not sure how that cuts with respect to doing the weekend there.

You guys ought to shoot down to Asheville, save some money, and if some of you have not previously been, you'll love the place. What is the date? Tons of options for exploring the Appalachians. Take everyone to Hot Springs, at the cabins across the tracks with the hot spring water pumped into the premises- The Appalachian Trail runs down Main St. Beer everywhere and many nice people. Check it out.

First of all, Congratulations! What about Boston? Tons of brewery\beer options and there's always a chance to run into the Bros on your way. Obviously SoCal has lots of potential (including waking up in Tijuana).

If I were you I'd look at places where you can try awesome beer more than the chance to visit a brewery.

Wow a ton of great suggestions! Thanks for the responses! Im going to be starting a list.

The other option is staying in Minneapolis, making everyone come to me, getting a party bus, and hitting the litany of spots here.

Congrats on the engagement! Did a beer bachelor party in Colorado several years ago for my best friend. We were out there 3 nights and stayed in a cabin just outside of Boulder. There were 5 of us total and we hit up the breweries in and around Ft Collins, Boulder, and Denver. There was an appointed DD each day (never the bachelor) and we had a blast. Tons of outdoor activities as well.

I would recommend looking at Colorado as well. You can hit a bunch of fantastic breweries and beer bars in the Denver/Boulder area and even take a short trip up to Ft. Collins as well. No matter what month you decide to come, there will be lots of different outdoor activities to choose from. Beginning in January 2014, you would also have the option to purchase marijuana legally at retail stores in Colorado.

I recently had some friends come out to Denver for a bachelor party, which was pretty epic. We went to the Denver Summer Brew Fest beer festival, several different breweries/brewpubs in Denver, and a Rockies game. We also took a trip up into the mountains where we camped, hiked, and rafted the Colorado River. It was a pretty great combination of beer-drinking and other recreational activities.

I'll cast another vote for Oregon. Portland one night, Bend another. Depending on the time of year, plenty of skiing options on Mount Hood and Bachelor. Always plenty to do outdoors...fishing, hiking, climbing, rafting, Mtn biking.

Too many good options so far. I may have to pick my best man, then make him figure it out. lol.

If you are planning this trip to take place anywhere close to the winter months, I cannot stress enough how much San Diego is the best option.

I love Chicago, but it is a beast in cold weather. And if you are looking at a long, 3-day weekend, I'm not sure how realistic it would be to get to Founders, Three Floyds, Bell's and Goose Island (based on what some others have said).

Grand Rapids (Founders) and Chicago are a few hours apart (although Kalamazoo--Bells--is more or less on the way), so it just seems like you'd be doing more driving/riding than partying. Of course, Chicago is a great food/beer city, so if your plan was to just go there and hit up any number of the great places in the city, that would change things. Heck, a Chicago trip and just doing the city with an excursion to Three Floyds would probably be pretty cool.

Oregon also sounds fun, but I've never been up there so I can't speak from experience.

I agree with either Portland or Asheville, been to both and each is a great craft beer city. Asheville has a lot of places walkable around the downtown area, but may be a little harder or more expensive for everyone to fly into if that matters. Portland also has many great places but more spread out. A couple years ago I was in town on business and we were able to get a cab driver to stay with us all night for an extra $50 which was really worth it, we just called when we were ready to move on to the next place.

Too cold! Come to Asheville and see a warmer snow. Whatever you decide, good luck!
