So every week i trade a beer with a few coworkers. Keep in mind that these guys are your typical ipa guys.. I thought i'd spruce it up a bit and trade a few Rochefort 10s. I was told by one guy that it was a drain pour because it tasted like liquor (what a waste of excellent beer). Aren't typical double ipa guys used to a strange palate wrecking from time to time? I now know that their palates aren't used to a sophisticated beer like Rochefort 10, what beer do you recommend I trade this week?
Uh... IPAs? But seriously, I'd say steer clear of Belgians altogether. Maybe some porters or stouts, or you can go all out and bring in a barleywine.
No bareywine... one of the guys gave me a 2010 Olde school barleywine that is currently sitting in my fridge. Maybe i will try a stout. Thanks for the suggestion!
Why even trade? Set up a weekly or monthly tasting with them instead. Everyone brings a beer and you try them all. I try to done one every month with some of my co-workers and it's a blast. Plus it gives you an excuse to open some of those 13% 750ml bottles you've been scared to tackle solo...
lucky that you've got people at work into craft! i'm trying a new introductory program called "giving craft". previously when i've bought too much that doesn't fit in the fridge i'll load it into the lab next doors beer fridge, no direct hits yet. last week i gave a coworker 21st amendment brew free or die IPA & it was BATTLESHIP!
My coworkers say that I have "beer issues". I think it stems from me going on a wine tour with them and bringing 8 growlers with me in the limo to share instead of drinking wine.
My coworkers think I run a business on the side due to the boxes that show up from time to time. And I'm confused on a Rochefort 10 IP work trade. They are available everywhere, right?
I am going to do this soon... Probably invite over 6-8 people that say they "like" beer and do a big tasting of vastly different styles... and hopefully clear out the cellar a BUNCH.
While i dont "trade at work, we do drink beer at work on occasion, and often after work. I actually have a decent cellar at work.
Every once in awhile you'll come across a bottle of Rochefort that tastes like paint thinner. My review of 10 is even from an infected bottle.
I wish more people at my job were into beer trading. Would save SOOO much on shipping and most of the travel to Gent, Belgium quite often.
Here as well. My current work cellar - KBS, Fleur, 75 minute, Wookey Jack, Sucaba, Zoe and half a dozen empty growlers.
