I'm heading on a trip back East and I'm wondering where the must stop places are. I'm looking only for stores or bottle shops, not bars or breweries. The cities are: Colombus, Ohio Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Washington D.C. Charlottesville, Virginia Lexington, Kentucky Any thoughts on what places to go and what beers to get that I can't get in Kansas or Missouri? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
When in Columbus you need to get some Columbus Brewing's IPA, and also Fat Head's Headhunter IPA. Probably the place that will be very convenient to your route would the The Anderson's store on the east side of town. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4264/?view=ratings
The Beer Trappe, Lexington. They have a very solid selection at fair prices. They have a few beers on tap as well. Edit: Since you're going through Kentucky, you might as well go to Louisville and check out the Louisville Beer Store in downtown. Their danish/belgian/german/norwegian selection is off the charts.
In DC: Connecticut Ave. Wine and Liquor Deli (small, but top notch selection and some rare stuff) Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits (for Belgian stuff) D'Vines (good growler station) Not shops, but fun beer stops: Right Proper Brewing Co. (prob the best overall brewery in DC at moment) Churchkey (one of the best beer bars anywhere) Bluejacket (beer is just OK, but one of the most beautiful brewery facilities you will see) Cheers!
Two places in Charlottesville: Beer Run (they serve food and beer as well as retail) and Wine Warehouse.
Good Ta Go! Located a couple minutes west off I-81 in Chambersburg, PA. Which is 25 miles west of Gettysburg on US-30. They carry EVERYTHING from bottles of Natural Light to six pack bottles of beer from around the world you can even pronounce. HUGE selection of six packs, just a wee bit on the pricier side.
Also, they usually have a 10% off mix-a-six on a lot of craft and world brews. Just don't go in during a Ravens-Steelers game, gets a little nuts!
Probably about an hour or so out of the way between columbus and gettysburg- but definitely worth the trip if you have the extra time http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10048/
