I don't think I've noticed this on a beer label yet. I try not to eat that stuff, so I probably don't want to drink it either.

I get enough artificial flavors from my favorite candies. If I see it on the beer label, I will not purchase. I don't see why any beer should have this.

Isn't that called Bud Light? Or is it Coors Light? Oh shit, I didn't remember the title. It says artificial flavoring, not artificial ingredients.

When people here exclaim that their beer tastes like a liquid candy bar, it's easy to see why brewers would use it.

If it had actual grapefruit added it would say "IPA with Grapefruit" on the label instead of "IPA with Natural Grapefruit Flavors." I think the folks at BP would prefer the former. In fact, if you look at their secondary packaging (six pack carriers, etc) which is not as specifically regulated by TTB, they do. It says "IPA with Grapefruit." Let's face it, that's better to market. To me, that's a little shady. I'm sure others will feel differently, but that's just, like, my opinion, man. Hey, if you don't care what's in your beer so long as you like the taste, good on you. Despite what any brewer says, the only reasons to use flavorings in lieu of actual fruits are the following: They are predictable, they are easy to handle, they are unaffected by seasonal variations, they are available year round. Oh, and they are extremely cheap. Unfortunately, we have several generations of people in this country who think Jolly Rancher flavors are what actual fruit tastes like. And when brewers hear their complaints of "I don't get any [insert fruit here]" they have choice to make. Getting back to Ballast Point, I do wonder what will actually be in their Pineapple Sculpin, Mango Even Keel and Watermelon Dorado.

I definitely do not want anything artificial in good beer. It was made from all natural ingredients throughout history before the industrial age, and I hope good brewers keep it that way. It's usually the corporate mass producers that add artificial ingredients, and I hope small time craft brewers don't go there...

What "artificial ingredients " are used in Bud Light and Coors Light?

Eh, if it's a beer I like I'll get it even if it has artificial ingredients.

I'm not sure there is anything natural about GF Sculpin. I enjoy beer that exhibits authenticity in its ingredients and complexity in taste.

I usually base my buying decisions on how a beer tastes. So if it tastes good, I don't care very much if that good taste is coming from artificial ingredients or not.

This is incorrect. Natural simply means "not artificial." It has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of the ingredient used.

There are certain ingredients that big companies use in alcohol that are bad. I'm not sure exactly about beer, but I know things like Red's Apple Ale, Mike's Hard, Smirnoff Coolers, Seagrams colored drink things, and many more big name advertised drinks you can find in most stores have artificial colors and/or flavors. They are in our food too and other non-alcoholic drinks if you aren't careful. I've also heard some big name beers use high fructose corn syrup, and possibly gmo corn (not sure about health effects but some people remain wary). They aren't toxic I guess, but in large excessive amounts over time they do no good for the health. I hope craft brewers remain natural and keep the beer's integrity and don't put harmful ingredients in good tasting beer. Water, grains, yeast, hops, maybe other natural ingredients. That is all beer should be.

I prefer drinking with natural flavors, but artificial wouldn't stop me from drinking it. If it sounds good I'll drink it.
