Hi all, Was in Brussels this week and filled up my stock with a few interesting beers. Found a Chimay triple from what I believed was 2008. However when I looked at in more closely 2008 was the best before date and not the brewed date... So simple question.. is this still drinkable or should I place it in the shelf unopened as a pretty little decoration?
Just drink it. This beer should age fine. I'm not sure about Belgium, but some countries have labeling laws which force breweries to put best before dates on beers that could age much longer.
Open it and find out. That's what I would do. I couldn't just let it sit there without ever finding out if it still tasted good.
Thanks all. It will be tested in a month or two at my annual beer tasting (with carefully selected friends). Will let you know if it was drinkable.
Along the same lines a friend left a New Belgium Belgo (Belgian IPA) at my house that was about a week past the best by date. Damn that stuff was better now than it is fresh!
