I max out at 50 cents an oz. I'll pay 7.00$ a pint for some local double IPA goodness but I draw the line right there.

Never said I could not, I just though comparing wine prices to beer is silly.

Probably the same slow creep we've seen. If you mean like in 10 to 20 years, too unpredictable. i will say it's too easy to make to be priced out of excellent / world class entirely.

Sounds like you just do it out of principle. That's fine.

Certainly there's a time and a place for something big and heavy if you like that kind of stuff. And it is of course going to be more expensive. So, just like any other purchase, if we put it in the context of how someone should probably imbibe, it doesn't seem nearly as insane.

But you'll always have the Ranger IPAs of the world and such out there for the other occasions (which I rather enjoy doing as well).

I'm sure the price will continue to go up, but not at that quick of a rate.

Ah ok well now were talking, what your willing to pay. Its NOT just the price of beer than effects my buying. Its how much I make. Its also of course: value. Bang for buck, etc.

I be the first one to admit it, If money was not an issue, I be drinking Belgians in Belgium all day long. Since I have no idea what its like to be that liquid, we have to save for our trips. Saving and spending that money teaches one to be frugal.
But that comes with age. I was once young and stupid and some times spend half my navy paycheck on booze in the 15 day period between paydays....

Now if your asking a market question as too how much will it bear before it stops paying high prices, then I say it depends on how many folks out there do not care about 100 bucks....some can burn those and never miss it. this always screws up the bell curve. you know?

So old and on Navy pension, you spend less. Working on wall street getting $500k bonus. well then you can figure that 1 out.

As to what the market will bear, that question is impossible to answer is it not? asking this SMALL bunch of active BA's is not going to get you a good answer.:grimacing:

    But common sense will.

When will you stop drinking? For me I always had a perception that bombers were rip offs. lack value. of course that never stopped me from buying a few I wanted. I have self control, and since I not in some race to tick every beer on the planet, for what end I will never understand. So I tend to avoid them. Still there are exceptions. I am willing to spend a tad more money on some six packs, but there is a limit to the amount of cash there is to spend.:slight_frown:

So the answer is each person will have their own limits for their own reasons.:grinning:

And that might describe the difference between marketing and economics. The factors affecting cost have been discussed. Anybody with a pencil and paper can figure that out. What people are willing to pay is another matter entirely.

If we head into a state of hyperinflation during the next two week, then yes, we will see lots of $50 bottles soon.

In Michigan at least, the supply of microbrews seems to be easily keeping up with demand. I'm more worried that in the future, demand will soften and micros will start dropping. If it all equals out, maybe prices (adjusted for inflation) should stay at their current levels.

Also, there is a different market for high priced bombers of exotic beer vs. buying a sixer every week to enjoy on a regular basis. As far as everyday beer, I will very rarely pay over $2.50 per 12 oz. bottle or can. There are too many good choices at or below that level to reasonably need to pay more. Pareto's Law applies...

$10 a six-pack is about my max. Of course, there will be times I break this... but for an average, $10 a six.

Wine has a certain perception that translates to higher prices. Beer has a perception that translate into lower prices. In general

A good Barolo can have a shelf price of $90 and wine lovers probably wouldn't scoff.
A good beer (name the style) at $90 would get the biggest laugh, even though it's probably just as good, relatively, to the wine.
Beer has a stigma, thanks in part to dumb-ass commercials, college parties and the wine industry. This will help keep the price of beer down...relative to wine

It will always be possible to get good beer for a low price.

But, I do think the high end of beer pricing will go up and up. Especially beers that age well, as liquor stores often have aging rooms where they might hold on to their whales until that particular vintage of whale becomes super-rare.
