Oh man, I'd totally get into it and it's weird to me that anybody says they need the alcohol. The alcohol makes it difficult to enjoy more of what the rest of the drink is! No part of being more drunk makes the next beer taste better and in fact the opposite is true, hence switching to junk beers after enjoying some nice ones. If cans of All green Everything weren't 10.5%, I could be crushing deliciously light and citrusy carbonated drank all day.

I've grown fond of citrus juicy IPAs though, so on off nights I'll drink those san pellegrino canned citrus drinks. They're carbonated, they've got enough sugar to have the body stand up, and the taste is nearly what I'm looking for.

Certainly not exclusively, but it would have its advantages. Of course, I expect the price to reflect the difference as well.

I'd love to have the option to drink an imperial stout or two and not worry about driving.

If there were a beer that was exactly the same but without alcohol I would absolutely drink it. It would cause me problems though because without the alcohol I'd have no reason to stop drinking it.

buzz is part of the fun but at the same time, it would be great to have the cake and eat it too when you want a beer but cant have a buzz or just to balance out drinking habits, it could aid in the prevention of alcoholism if it was good enough beer

The obviously benefits of alcohol aside, I think its presence in beer adds a lot of flavor and complexity.

As a couple others have said... if it was somehow exactly the same as beer with alcohol, just without the alcohol -- so no differences to flavor, feel, etc. despite a major component being missing -- then sure, I'd still drink it. Assuming it's a beer I like to begin with, it'd still be a much better choice for me than something like soda (too much processed sugar and other junk) or plain water (doesn't taste good enough to bother with unless you're dying of thirst.)

The buzz is a nice side-effect at times, and sometimes I'm more in the mood for that side-effect than usual, but it's pretty much never the only reason I want to have a beer.

alcohol also ads flavor. Without it it would taste much different.

If I could get the same taste and mouthfeel without the alcohol, I would go for it. Since alcohol is a key part of the experience with any BA stout or IIPA, I don't see it happening soon. If I want something tasty and fizzy without alcohol, I go for a soda once in a while, but don't see the same excitement or Soda Pop Advocate anytime soon.

I drink beer for the taste the majority of the time, so it wouldn't matter to me that much if the beer tasted good enough. I do also like getting the buzz from time to time. It is surprising how brewers disguise the alcohol sometimes and how sometimes you really notice it even in the lower ABV beverages. I would say the ABV does not matter to me unless I have a very important day, or the next day.

I honestly do prefer the taste of beer over other options. For instance, I generally get unsweetened tea when not in the mood for an alcoholic beverage. Unsweetened tea vs. adding "adjunct" sweeteners (my fat ass can't take real sugar ) vs. the taste of a beer??

I'd rather have an option that tastes like a good beer.

Now, when I am in the mood for an alcoholic beverage........ glad there's a tasty option.

Generally no, but some. There have been times when I was essentially alcohol free, I would drink some NA beers. While they don't taste like real beer, it was something to drink other than soda (not a fan of sugary drinks and want chemical laden diet drinks even less). There is only so much water I can drink before it gets too boring.

Unless, of course, it actually tastes like beer.
    Then, it's beer.:grinning:
If there were a non alcoholic beer available that had the same flavor as regular beer, I'd be all over it. Frankly, I'd probably drink just as much of it as I would regular beer.

I drink beer because I like the flavor
(I always have, and have always consumed it primarily for that reason).
The tricky part of making a non-alcoihol beer is the fact that ethanol contributes it's own feel and flavors to beer.

But I for one would really like there to be a way to make or but a beer/ale that provides all of the the flavor without the buzz.

Why on earth would it be pointless if the flavor could be the same? Good de-caffienated coffee tastes no different than regular coffee.
Unfortunately, there are no alco-free beers that really taste like regular beer because of the flavor contribution of ethanol. If someone came up with a process to retain the flavor contribution of the alcohol after the alcohol itself is removed, it would be a multi-million dollar accomplishment.

This thread shouldn't have gone this far since we're all discussing a beverage that ISN'T beer. By definition, beer is an alcoholic drink.

No would probably get fired because I would sit around work all day drinking non alcoholic beer and rating it on BA. Alcohol keeps me from drinking beer at work

Most beers are already low on alcohol compared to say, wine and harder alcohol so it would make no sense. I rarely drink beer to get drunk but at least get a little buzz.
