Hi everyone i have a basic question. I made my first batch of beer and the gravity was 1.100 but it was only half my wort as i added half pure clean water to it to brin it up to 5 gallons of wort so i think that it should be 1.050 for a gravity. I then added my yeast but i checked on it to day the first day after the boil and its sitting on the bottom of my carboy. Is this normal i hear a lot of people talk about a lava lamp like sight when they ferment their carboys, and i am getting a little bubbling from my airlock. Am i just worrying or is there something i should do?

    Thank you for your advice
    Jon

As long as you did not pitch your yeast at too high of a temp you should be good. I am sure you ariated your wort well?

What temp is the fermenter sitting at? If it's cold where you are and the fermenter is sitting in a cool room, the fermentation may just be a bit slow. If you're seeing airlock activity, that's a good sign.

Probably check the above posts, but don't mess with it otherwise. Leave it a couple weeks and then check the gravity. It's probably fine.

What you should do is just relax and wait. It really depends on a lot of things. How much yeast did you pitch, what temp was the wort when you pitched, what temp is the wort fermenting at now, was your wort well oxygenated, and many more. Sometimes I don't see activity for 2-3 days. Sometimes I check on day 2 and have already missed most of the fermentation activity. Almost always the beer is good. Wait a week and check your gravity.
