Ah thank you for the corrections! You all are likely correct, and this makes a bit more sense given the time requirement to walk 15km everyday.

Still great to aim for 15k steps, or however many km you can fit in in your day. The best exercise routine is the one that works for you.

And also be nice to your liver. :beers:

    So, drink coffee stouts?

Sorry. This is a serious topic.

I'd love to see a moderation subforum on this site

A big difference is that when I drink NAs, I only drink one. Since there's no enhanced effect from a second one I leave it in the fridge for the next day. My BIL, a reformed alkie, is the same-when he's here for a meal or whatever, he'll drink one NA and he's done.

We're in France for 6 months this year so we've had to make a conscious effort to limit the amount of bread, cheese, and charcuterie that we eat. It doesn't help that lately a trend in birthday meals has been 5 courses of charcuterie with different breads and followed by a huge cheese plate. The closest thing to a veggie are the cornichons served on the side. And these are birthdays for people rapidly approaching or passing 80 years old.
I'm still amazed at how many people in France are heavy smokers. Only one of my wife's siblings still smoke, but many of the nephews/nieces and their children are heavy smokers.

As far as liver monitoring goes I haven't been to a doctor in over a decade, but my friend is just completing his post med residencies and moving back to LA Soon. :smirk:

I'm one of the few BA's over 70. I've had to reduce beer consumption down to one a week as alcohol affects my heart rhythm.
Sad to give up homebrewing and drain pour alot of beer.

For a rare occasion last Sunday I skipped my pre-meal beer tasting because I was hoping that it would help me recover from the Covid that hit me last Friday while I was drinking a beer and realized that I couldn't finish my beer. My body was fighting the covid and was rejecting the alcohol. Now a few days later, I still don't have much appetite and my cold is still active, but this time there's no question about skipping any pre-meal beer session. Maybe it would kill the virus... And if it doesn't at least I won't have another frustration to see that my attempt to improve my condition has failed. And I have another good reason: My beer expiration date is near...

That sucks. I'm not far behind you, I'm closing in on 68. I had to almost completely quit drinking beer when I hit 60 because of prostate issues, but 4 years ago I had surgery and all my problems are solved. But during the 3 years I couldn't drink beer my consumption level of alcohol in general plummeted. and that's not bad thing.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with cheese and meats. Over processed foods, sugars and stagnant lifestyle are the biggest issue. You also have a food advantage living in Europe whereas in America, seemingly 90% of the food is not real.

Whether we are at our house in New Mexico or in France we cook 90%of our meals, at least. Americans can eat real food with just a little effort. Even our children, both in their late 30s with families cook almost every day.

Appreciate the vibes bro. I was diagnosed Friday with fatty liver disease and an enlarged liver with a few other words following that I don't quite understand.

Bottom line: if I am to heal from this, a vast reduction in alcohol and change in diet is required.

With that said, to all of those who commented, I appreciate the input and support. In addition, tread lightly with your favorite drinks.

I am younger than many of you and was in the best shape of my life 4 years ago when i joined this site. Less than 2 years ago, I was given a clean bill of health. Lipid panel, blood pressure, I had everything in check.

I let myself go for about a period of a year and a half and this is where it got me. If anyone's interested, none of my issues are genetic but rather self inflicted.

All in all, I'm determined to better my health and enjoy beer (in moderation) again. This is not a death sentence but rather my bodies warning signs to straighten up.

Cheers and well wishes to all of you.

Glad to hear that you’re taking it seriously and addressing the issues. We will definitely miss your regular presence, but we would rather have you healthy than not.
    Cheers!

While the situation is unfortunate, it sounds like you have a good attitude and prognosis for the future. Wishing you all the best!! :+1:

My worst COVID symptom passed away yesterday when I recovered my ability to taste and appetite at the same time. It probably helped that my mind would not allow another Friday without the joy of drinking my beer.

Oh well, I was wrong! My Laguinitas IPa beer tastes nothing and my body has enough after 350 ml. It seems like until the Covid passes away I am going to live with this situation. I hope I am not going to be one of those who has to live with this for a long time... I may have to drink Budweiser instead of wasting my money on beers with more flavors...

I feel your pain. Or frustration! My sense of smell is almost NULL but I can taste - though as taste and smell are so intertwined, I know I'm not getting the nuances I used to get. Stouts still taste amazing though.

I can taste a bit of salty food, garlic but hoppy flavors are too delicate for me...

Yes I know that alcohol won't help, but when weekends come i have urges...
