Im planning a road trip in the near future to vermont and was just wanting some suggestions of good breweries along the way in KY, NY, OH etc. I know there are going to be plenty but just wanted to get some feedback.

    Thanks

I'm not familiar with the breweries along the way where you will be driving, so I can't offer any suggestions, but have you looked at the Places tab at the top of this page, or at this website? http://beermapping.com/

Check out Roadtrippers.com. you can put in a start & finish, and then filter different attractions along the way, add them to your itinerary and it will change the directions for you. Under Food & Drink, there are Bars, Pubs, and Breweries you can show.

Unfortunately 71 doesn't take you right by much in Ohio. Not sure how far off the highway you are willing to go.

There is a cool little brewpub that sells bottles in Strongsville, Ohio that is directly off of 71. The Brew Kettle has good food and good beer. Once you get near Cleveland it kind of depends on what route you take through the city. I am not an expert in that part of the state; maybe someone from Cleveland can pipe up. Great Lakes Brewery is awesome, but you would have to head into the city. Kind of the same thing in Columbus, if you aren't in a hurry and can skip the bypass and come into the city, there are a lot of good places to grab a beer and a bite.

When I go through TN I stop at a little place off of 65 in Franklin. Red Dog has a pretty good selection of stuff, although you probably don't need any help with TN.

That is about the extent of what I can tell you. Your best bet would probably be if you are willing to get off the highway and spend some time in some of the bigger cities. Might try posting in the regional forums for more specifics.

I would def be willing to put in extra miles to make it into the city for sure. Brew kettle looks and sounds tasty. Hazelnut porter ? Yes plz lol

There's a bunch of breweries on either side of MA/NY border off I-90. Some are good, some are mediocre. Ommegang is close enough to I-90 to take a detour. If you change your plans and go through PA, you can hit Weyerbacher and a handful of breweries in Allentown area before heading to NY.

From TN, I would STRONGLY advise coming through Lexington KY and hitting Country Boy Brewing. They are a year and a half old, brewing everything from great summer beers like berry hefe's, gose & saisons to kick-ass IPA's, and a slew of barrelled beers. Two other breweries within 2 miles as well, West 6th & the brand new Blue Stallion. I promise you that routing your trip this way will be worth the effort. From here you can shoot up 75 to 71 and hit Brew Kettle. I've never been to the brewery, but their beers are always solid. Oh, BTW, Country Boy fills outside growlers. Message me when you get dates and I'd be happy to meet you for a beer on me and intro you to the owners.

Jackie O's is awesome; great food and some amazing beers. They are pretty far off of your path though. The pub won't have bottles, but they usually have a good mix of their regular offerings, their crazier stuff and guest stuff on tap and do growler fills. You can also grab cans of their regular stuff in a decent number of central and southern Ohio shops.

If you are going to go to Jackie O's there are some other ones to hit in southern Ohio too. Rockmill Brewery is an awesome farm and makes killer Belgians. They have a tap room with their stuff and usually a tap of one-of. Buckeye Lake has the usual suspects for a brew pub but a cool spot on the lake.

Well, if you don't mind a quick detour, shoot on over to louisville for a spell, shouldn't be more than an hour and a half or so out of your way before you run up to Cincinnati.

Against the grain makes some good beers, and of course we have holy grale, a pretty damn good beer bar. You could always hit a bourbon distillery or two on your way if that's your thing, and end your day by grabbing some bottles from the louisville beer store before drunk driving up to Cincinnati.

Of course, Enjoy louisville responsibly though! (Can be hard, it's a pretty legit drinking town).

You have to stop at Southern Tier in Lakewood, NY. Its located about 20min off 90, right after you cross over into NY from PA (assuming your route takes you that way). I've been to a large number of breweries, and it is by far my favorite.

+1 to Jackie O's. It's worth going out of the way for it. Maybe on the way back? Southern Tier in Lakewood is on the way (kind of), and Cleveland has some good beer stores. Despite the 12% ABV cap, I think Ohio has one of the best distros in the country.
