I need to use up some vacation days and was thinking of driving up the east coast for a week from NC to visit some breweries and whatnot. I grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY but moved down to NC before I was old enough to drink. My plan was to hit up Treehouse and then head over to Trillium. After that, I was thinking of heading to Vermont to pick up some Heady Topper and SOS if I'm lucky. Anyway make a similar trip and have any suggestions or tips? I would love to visit some more breweries on the way, but not really sure what is convenient off of 95. I'll be flying solo so thinking of staying at KOA's to cut down on costs. Will be making the trip in early August. Cheers!

Other than the obvious things like checking release day/time(s) and brewery hours etc, I would recommend trying to make it over to Jack's Abby as well as Night Shift. When you're up in VT I would also suggest Fiddlehead to grab some Second Fiddle (or anything else they make), it's worth the drive. Hill Farmstead too if you're going to be up in VT, may as well may a day or two of it. If you can make it to Maine, definitely check out Maine Beer co.

Is Connecticut chopped liver? You could stop by a place or two here! :slight_frown:

Thanks @lambpasty I definitely should hit up Fiddlehead and Hill Farmstead since I am driving all this way to begin with. I love driving through Vermont anyways. Another few hours is worth it for sure. I'll probably glance back at this thread before I make the trip so I can remember all these places.

@PatrickCT I'll probably hit up New England Brewing Co. on the way up! Have only had their Sea Hag, but would love to try some of their other stuff.

If you hop off the NJ Turnpike at Exit 4.you can hit up Flying Fish and Forgotten Boardwalk.

You can also head towards the beach and hit up Kane and Carton.

Appreciate it! I am thinking I'll focus on NEBCO, some of the MA breweries, and then head to VT. Mainly trying to stock up on some hops for the rest of the summer / early fall. If I still have some funds/time I would love to hit up some more places on the way back. Kane and Carton are definitely good suggestions. Thanks @SammyJaxxxx !

NEBCO usually has Ghandi Bot on tap. But if Galaxy PA is a treat. And of course Fuzzy Baby Ducks.

Smuttynose is 45 min. up 95 from Trillium, and Stoneface is 15 min. North on 95 from Smutty. You could then cut over to 93 and head to Vermont.

I feel like Im back on the NE forum, except no one has asked how/where to get Heady Topper yet. But, seriously, enjoy your time in New England we are a growing mecca of beer awesomeness. I will also add a +1 to Jacks Abby, and as a added bonus they do cask beers every week which have been (mostly) amazing.

Close to that I-95 corridor up the coast, agree with @Giantspace re: Tired Hands, if you do, call ahead or check the website because they have totally weird hours and depending on your timing, it's hit or miss with the taps. Once again, call ahead and you might get lucky to pick up some DC Brau - Wings in the D.C. area or even some Double Duckpin at Union Craft in Baltimore.

I would do Tree House, Jack's Abby, Trillium, Night Shift, and Lord Hobo (in that order) as you travel through MA and then on to Vermont. Given that you said Tree House and Trillium and Vermont as your goals the others I mention would be mostly right on your route and all worth checking out.

Definitely great NH choices to hit on the way, Stoneface RIS and IPA are world class.

Sip of Sunshine and Heady Topper have pretty detailed delivery lists on the brewery websites. Their breweries are not open to the public though. Can get both at pubs in the Waterbury/Stowe region though. Websites also list the retail delivery dates. And other links have more specific delivery time estimates.

Tributary is in the ballpark there as well, right?

Try: http://www.brewerymap.com (also available at apps for Apple and Android but I have not used either of thos yet.).

Put in your 'start' and 'stop' points. Enter how far off the route you're willing to go. Should generate all breweries within those parameters. Pick and choose.

Smuttynose is a 45 minute drive west just to get to 93, so that is a bit of a side trip vs. just heading straight up 93 from Trillium. If you do head to Smutty I would certainly drive the additional 10 minutes further north to Stoneface and then 10 minutes further to Tributary in Kittery, ME. From Kittery it is 3 hours to Montpelier. Be aware August is peak tourist season, so highway travel on Friday afternoon and anytime after 11am on Sunday is going to test your patience.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I'm not sure how much time/funds I'll have to hit up everything I want to. I am hoping to camp as much as possible to save on funds and hit up as many breweries as I can. I am sure traffic will be the toughest thing to factor in. Cheers!

^then if you clear the line quickly you can haul ass to Winooski and maybe get lucky at Beverage Warehouse. And if you don't they have plenty of other bottles to tempt you with.
