Nomination polls for new cities entering into the final poll occurring now: http://polldaddy.com/poll/7015761/ Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor are currently commanding the number 1 and 2 spots, respectively, and doing so quite handily at this point. If Kalamazoo wins it, it'll be the Founders fanboys vs. Bell's fanboys. I'd be happy with either, but will be voting GR when the final polls open. I'm afraid, however, that the pissing contest between GR and KZoo may divide the vote for Michigan and allow Asheville to win again or some other place to sneak in.
There's two phases to the poll. The first phase, which is what they're in currently, is nominating any new cities to the poll that wouldn't otherwise be considered for the final poll. The second and final phase is voting on a pre-determined set of cities based on usual beer meccas and past winners (Bend, San Diego, Portland, GR, Asheville, etc.) plus the city that wins this first poll. The winner gets the title of BeerCity USA for the year, which is good for bragging rights and tourism marketing.
Can't wait for the annual shitstorm on this site that happens every year concerning one online poll. It's like Christmas if Christmas consisted of people arguing about why cities they've never been to aren't as awesome as the cities they live in or near.
