Seriously? At first blush I'd guess it has more to do with 'calories per serving' than anything else, so I wouldn't expect to see that in anything other than Lite beers.

Wow that's news to me! Especially since I have never once even looked at the price or size of either (And I can guarantee you I never will)

Even if I'd never drink any of that, it is beer advocate and not craft beer advocate. Takes all that is in me to not troll the hell out of it but if that's his choice and it's a legit concern of his then I'll try and help any way possible.

That said, I've never heard of any Indiana laws that would make this the case. If they are still charging same price then it sounds like $$ saving bmc BS to me.

FWIW- small 7 oz. bottles (called a Nip or Pony) are still around, I believe, although they are nowhere near as popular as they were in the 70's and 80s.

In this case it's the 10 oz. cans that stand out to me as being unusual.

Sometimes I wish everyone made nip bottles. I can't drink a 11+% 750 solo in one sitting.

Seems like Bud and Coors are just picking up a common occurrence in the grocery business, shrinking the package while maintaining the price. See the actual sizes of a "pound" of coffee, "half gallon" of orange juice or ice cream, among others.

It was a while ago, but some Barleywines used to be sold in small bottles (Anchor Old Foghorn, Rogue Old Crustacean)- I guess it didn't catch on, although it does make sense for huge beers like that.

The main appeal of the AAL Nips seemed to be that you could finish one quickly, before it started to warm up (at least, that's what my friends said).

It may be an optical illusion. The beers look smaller as we grow larger.

Bud Nips were our beer of choice in softball in the 80s because you could easily drink one in a half inning before going back in the field.

I haven't seen the smaller packages, but adding different package sizing is one technique the bigger brewers use to gain shelf space.

You got that right, shelf space and tap handles are huge in the beer business. Shelf space is one of the objectives when introducing new products into a market.

This is the method they describe in beer wars and why they offer so many different size packages (6,12,18,20,24,30,36 packs)

The bud light lime a Rita size is based upon its 8% abv,Budweiser doesn't want to be responsible for people getting totally hammered on those in 12 once cans.their way of being responsible I guess.not sure what's up with coors summer beer though.

It was Rogue. Wish I could pick up a 7oz nip still. Beats the hell out of paying that god awful price of 20+ dollars for the 24oz bottle.

Ya, you are right, nothing says "Respect Beer" more than Malt liquor imitation fruit extract swill like Lime a rita or coors lemonade light. But who am I to say? Just a lowly troll that wouldn't drink that crap for free.

Too bad they didn't come in 9-packs instead of 8-packs.

Can you drink a 6 pack of a session ale in a sitting? It would be equivalent.
