Beers in LA

    My wife is heading to Los Angeles for a conference in a couple weeks. Any good suggestions for a list of beers to bring back home?

    Style preference? Modern Times, Almanac, Pizza Port will be easily found in Los Angeles.

    Porters and stouts, but some imperial IPAs are OK. How about Russian River?

    Russian River is pretty much only available if you get to the bottle shop within the two hours of delivery. Otherwise, you're SOL, especially since they've removed Blind Pig from distribution. Russian River also doesn't distribute any porters or stouts.

    Might also want to state which portion of LA your wife will be staying, that way those that know the area better can offer a better suggestion of bottle shops to get to.

    I also agree with the guy above me, you and everyone else that visits CA as well as locals are usually all over the RR bottles.

    I will second the guy that suggested Modern Times, Almanac and Pizza Port, all are pretty solid choices and have a variety of styles where there should be at least one to your liking.

    I noticed a lot of the Almanac beers are one time only. Is there anything that is readily available?

    Are you a fan of sour beer? That's pretty much all Almanac has out right now that would be worth getting. Also, Modern Times Black House is a great oatmeal stout that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

    I'm not a big sour fan but I noted the Black House. Sounds tasty. Thanks for the suggestion.

    In addition to those mentioned above, also recommend Smog City's bottles - Groundworks Coffee Porter and The Nothing (stout)

    Find out where she's staying and folks on here can be very specific about where to go and what to buy otherwise you're going to end up with shelf beers.

    The greater LA metropolitan area is about 4,800 square miles, about 10% the size of Mississippi. You should find out where she is staying.
