I am traveling to St. Thomas, Nassau and St. Maarten... Any beers I should be on the look out for in these tropical foreign lands? I'd hate to miss something in a once in a life time trip!

I've taken some cruises to these places multiple times. Unfortunately, most/all the beers are non-craft IMO. Also, I was surprised to see a lack of tap beer in these islands. Prepare yourself for 12oz bottles of lite euro-like lager

I kind of figured... We were at Caybrew in the Caymen Islands... It was nice to try something I can't get in the US, but it was very lager-heavy in styles!

We actually have a trip planned to St. John's and I literally JUST found that brewery and taproom. We'll make sure to stop!

Lived on St. Maarten for 2 years.

Unfortunately the selection is rather slim across the entire island, but if you can make it to one of the Grand or Gourmet Marches on the Dutch side you should be able to find a variety of completely random Euro dark/strong/light lagers. Although many of them may not blow you away, you will definitely find some things that I guarantee you'll never see again in your life.

you can walk to the Taproom from the ferry dock . . . super easy. I'm headed down to St. John for my honeymoon in 43 days!!

Our excursion takes the ferry there and gives us 5 hours to just wander. Sounds like I picked the right one! Happy early anniversary!

100% Agree. My wife and I went to St Thomas on our honeymoon years ago. We spent a day visiting St John and there we met Cheech, their Founder/Brewer.

He was a really cool dude and took pride in his craft.

I've heard he continues to make great beers.

I would recommend a day trip that includes the V.I. National Park. It's pretty awesome!

I did a cruise that hit those three islands last year! I don't recall a single memorable beer that I had on that trip, although I did pick up a few locals to bring home. They were all rather unimpressive lagers, with little flavor or bad/ weird flavors.

On another note, you should pick up as many bottles of St. Maarten Guavaberry Rum as you can carry. That stuff is seriously awesome: http://www.guavaberry.com/products_rums-liqueurs.php

How did you get them home, may I ask? When I bought rum last time, the store pre-packaged it for the ship so I didn't have to do anything. If I just bought beer... how does it get back on the ship?

When you get back to the ship, they take the beer and give it back to you on the last day. Then you can just stuff it in your suitcase somewhere. Unfortunately, you can't drink it on the ship

Yeah, I knew I couldn't have it on the ship. We'd just always had the shop bring it back to the boat. Good to know I can just give them a sixer and say 'pack this for me, please!'

You guys do realize that St John's beers are brewed and bottled by Shipyard Brewing up in Maine, right? They don't actually brew the beer on the island. And like Shipyard beers themselves, they aren't very good.

Vacation booked...I noticed they have a brew pub on the island. It has good/mixed reviews. Any good bottle spots on St. Croix?
