The most blown away I've ever been by a beer was Second Fiddle by Fiddlehead. A buddy went on a beer-cation and brought me back a lot of the NE heavy hitters (SOS, Heady, Focal, Trillium ect) and Second Fiddle (which I hadn't even heard of at the time). Second Fiddle was my favorite beer of the bunch.

More recently Tropical Torpedo blew me away. I have been relatively unimpressed with many of the new beers SN has put out recently, but my god that beer is awesome! I drank it along side of a Grimm In Mid-Air and I preferred Tropical Torpedo.

Recently Epic Big Bad Baptista, and the Highland IPA I had a week or two ago with dinner.

Alexander from Rodenbach. I didn't expect much and OMG what an amazing brew. One of the best brews I've had of any style. Wow

...only most recently: 3 day old Bosque IPA on tap. At their place. Unbe-ballz-lievable. Awesome-sauce. OK, I'll stop now.

Blown away by the smell; fresh Abrasive. If it's fresh the taste follows, an amazing Dipa.

Born Yesterday from Lagunitas was amazing. Palatablè by 515 Brewing also was surprisingly great. It's a single hop pale ale with Huell Melon, just fantastic. And I got lucky recently when my brother-in-law won the KBBS/Assassin lottery, so, KBBS blew me away, even with the hype.

Founders Breakfast Stout was the first imperial stout I ever had, and oh boy did it blow me away... That's the beer that showed me what beer could really be.

As far as beers that I had low expectations for? Sunday Mole Stout by Weyerbacher. Mole in beer sounded really gross, but whaddya know... It really works.

Most recently it was Lagunitas Born Yesterday 2016 and just last week I drank New Glarus Raspberry Tart. That beer actually made me say wow and laugh out loud it was so good. Amazing stuff. Cheers!

Picked up a 4 pack today. Lately, all of the DIPAs I've had seemed too malty. This one is great, it doesn't look or taste like the SecondFiddles I've had (although they've all been very good). This one is nice and murky and dry. Close to TreeHouse style. If I knew it was this good I would have bought more.

I am going to add to this based upon a beer I just had...another by Block 15-cosmic cold brew cafe borgia porter. This is a one off on their cosmic cold brew porter, made with a different type of coffee and also with orange peel added...and it is fantastic. The slightly bittered orange citrus flavor from the peel works in perfect harmony with the coffee. Its so incredibly well balanced. Not only was I impressed in that it was better than expected, but it has inspired me to revise my opinions on porters, which I by no means dislike but I have found lately far less satisfying from a complexity standpoint that stouts.

    Recently:

-Fremont Rusty Nail - I anticipated it would be good, but I did not expect it would be possibly the best beer I've ever had
-Prairie Apple Brandy Noir - insanely good

    And a local:

-Ocelot Barrel Aged Gravity Always Wins - I already had a high level of appreciation for this brewery, but this is easily the best beer I've had from them

That apple brandy barrel noir is insanely good isn't it? Its my favorite variant. So. Well. Balanced. You get it all with that one
