i do not know much about the subject besides stouts/porters are good if not better with age on them. Are there any other style that can age well? Pumpkin? Brown? Also any experiences with old aged beer that were not so great or surprising ? Thanks.

Some pumpkin beers are good with age, but it depends on the type of pumkin beer. Is it a Pumpkin Stout like Warlock or Pumkinator? Or Low is it low gravity like Brooklyn Post Road? Higher gravity beers like Imperial Stouts and Barleywines can age well. Sours often do well with age. Brett beers often hold up very well.

Big beers develop well over time. Barley wines, quads, imperial stouts, imperial porters.. Etc..

Beer fermented with bacteria (Wild ales, gueze, certain saisons) benefit tremendously from age as well.

I imagine that any high ABV, or heavily spiced beer with a darker malt bill would age gracefully, in the right conditions. The condition in which the beer is aged has a lot to do with how well it ages. I've had 9% ABV stouts aged for a year that were oxidized messes because the person aged them at room temp or higher. I've always wanted to age pumpkin ales. I've heard nothing but good results from this.

90 Minute. Much better at 6mo or a year IMO.

And Buton Baton ages even better than 90 Minute.

Not all stouts/ porters are better with age on them. It's really hard to tell whether a beer is better or not without actually trying it. Also, "better" has a lot to do with perception. I think Founders Breakfast Stout, for instance, is not better with any age on it.

Alewerks Pumpkin Ale is quite malty when fresh. I recently found a bottle that was a year old in a box in my basement. It was almost as good as fresh. I bought a whole 9 month old case on clearance last month.
