So, I made a bet on the TB/Pitt series with a friend of mine. I have TB, he has the Pens. Loser has to buy the winner a case of beer under $40 of their choice. I want some ideas. Right now, I'm leaning towards New Belgium. Citradelic or Spring House Big Gruesome - both in cans.

Straub's Sunshine Sampler. Some nice beers from small, family owned PA brewery.

Straub's makes some good stuff. They have an Amber beer I remember being a great Summer beer.

The Kolsch in this sampler recently got a Bronze medal. The Hefe is very nice. The Pils is sort of average. Have not yet tried the Vienna.

I don't want to derail this thread too much, but how widespread is Straub in PA? This summer (as I'll do from time-to-time) I'm heading to Erie and want to find some of the fine PA lagers.

I was able to find it in a small North Central town in PA with literally one beer store. You should be alright since you'll be in Western PA.

Depending on where you shop, you can find Bell's Two Hearted for right around $40/case, sometimes less.

As far as NB stuff goes, Citradelic is good but I'd opt for Slow Ride if anything. Personal taste, though.

Bell's Two Hearted is exactly $40 here, so not a bad choice. I haven't had Slow Ride, but my co-worker raved about it (didn't look it up, but I'm assuming that's the session IPA). Another good idea, especially for Summer.

Last year the Kolsch and Vienna were equally great. I agree about the Pils, it seemed to go down a notch from the previous year.

Three floyds sells all their cases on premises for 40 dollars. I know, I know, it's a drive. But, if it's your choice, and you come out victorious, he is slave to your command.

All Founder's 6pk beers come at under $40 a case (I've seen as low as $32 at some parts of the year). Can't go wrong at all with their year round lineup, especially at that price.

Couldn't stand slow ride. Would take a two hearted in a second.

Stone,SN,Ithaca, & Southern Tier (& Troegs?) all have 12pk samplers under $20, so 2 of those? Get 2 different ones, & you'll have a greater choice/less likelihood of boredom, & letting anything get too old.

Round guys fear of a Brett planet is under $40 out the door. One of my top beers. I love it once the Brett gets going. Not sure where in PA you are. It's a local to SEPA.

Lots of good Souther Tier under $40 too. I could go on but I won't

    Enjoy

    Hmm...

Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Stone. I know they don't sell beer in the costcos over there. Maybe 2...12 packs?

Do it for yourself sometime. It's worth it. Me and my brothers and sisters head out at 6am to FFF roughly 4-5 times a year to stock up on to-go's and get blissfully inebriated at 11am at their fine brewpub.

Munster is a small, unique, and oddly entertaining little town to spend a day in.

Picked up a case of Libation from St. Boniface in Ephrata, PA for under $40. Not too shabby for a solid, balanced D-IPA and supporting the "local guyz".

Quite a few of Neshaminy Creek beers are in that range. I really enjoy the Trauger Pilsner.

If you want a bit more variety then Sly Fox, Yards and Troegs would fit the bill with quality across the board.
