Beers with all MI hops

    Many of the small and new breweries I know use public domain hops from the MI growers. Trademarked/private hops and imported hops are from the brokers such as YCH, BSG, Country Malt. They get hops where they can. Contracts for some hops take years to kick in.

    lol...that's funny, I actually got my information from the owner of Canton Brew Works. If memory serves, Barry said they had used some MI grown hops but mostly they are supplied through their contracts. He said once they are expired he will start sourcing more within the state.

    EDIT: Sorry, thought after my OP, I wanted to make clear that I'm not disagreeing with you, just recounting my conversation from CBW. What's true for them doesn't mean all of those places you mentioned are doing the same thing.

    Public domain, huh. That's interesting. So they are able to get enough volume to supply 3-4 batches weekly on a 3-5 bbl system? I will make sure to ask my contacts at the farms.

    Public domain, of course, means hops developed by the USDA. Cascade, Centennial Chinook, Mt. Hood. That is in contrast to a Trademarked hops such as Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, HBC-366 and so, that can only be grown under license.

    I will ask again tonight, but some farms such as Top Hops and HopHead Farms appear in quantity in some of the local breweries hop storage freezers.
