on a whole i like more carbonation than less in a beer. You know, after a big sip you say AHH! Any standouts you know of? So far i'm liking Scrimshaw for a little extra bubble. Thanks for your suggestions in advance!
Anything that's bottle conditioned and a couple years old. Aged Rayon Vert, Jolly Pumpkin Bam variants were so carbonated it almost hurt my tongue.
Drinking a Mischief from The Bruery right now, and the carbonation is pretty decent. I typically shy away from really carbonated brews though, and usually let them sit long enough to lose some of the 'bite' while they warm, sooo, I can't really contribute anything useful.
Just want to chime in and say this is an interesting question, and look forward to what the more experienced advocates have to say. At first I thought I had no idea, but when basics mentioned bottle-conditioned beers it reminded me of good old SNPA. While it might not be as extreme as you want, it's got a good bite that plays well off the hops.
a lot of the Belgian pale ales may float your boat, especially if brewed with spices. i happen to be sipping on a Myron's Walk right now - loads of carbonation and a nice mix of coriander and cardamom.
SNPA for sure. My father would always buy me 6packs of that when I was in college, he must have bought me hundreds of SNPAs, and thusly I had them from very fresh to a few months old. The older they are the more bite they have as you say, and it's a very easy to see the abundant carbonation when it's in a glass.
I had southern tier compass a while ago. Absolutely loved it and thought the amount of carbonation really enhanced the bright perfume fruitiness of the brew.
Humm I drank a few beers over the years and I never really noticed any that were too heavy on carbonation. maybe I am comparing it to drinking a soda, but not even wits are not over carbed to me. I guess I have to have the beer in question and compare it to something else.
Almost anything from Jolly Pumpkin, especially if it's over 6 months old. Goose Island Sofie with 2+ years on it. Duvel.
Yes. Duvel is really "alive". Sometimes you can get a Jolly Pumpkin bottling that will put out a fire.
