For me personally, Sculpin and Two Hearted are worth the hype.

    Surly, not worth the hype.

Waiting to see if Zombie Dust is worth the hype. I love Alpha King, so I suspect it will be.

I haven’t had the pleasure of drinking Lawson’s beer yet but Heady Topper and Hill Farmstead (insert beer name here) are OUTSTANDING.

As many have mentioned, Pliny the Elder is excellent.

One of my favorite IPAs is Bells Two Hearted Ale; an excellent American style IPA.

I really enjoyed Lagunitas Sucks when it came out during the holidays and I look forward to this becoming a fulltime beer; it is another excellent beer.

Another beer that I think is excellent is Troegs Nugget Nectar which comes out every January/February.

I had one bottle of Alpine Duet and I thoroughly enjoyed that beer.

All of the above beers are “worth the hype” if you assume/agree that “hype” is the appropriate terminology.

    Cheers!

What does "worth the hype" even mean? You don't pay for beer in hype, it's not a currency. Something can't be "worth" hype. It can live up to expectations, which is what I assume you mean, but it's a weird way of putting it.

Also, obligatory "that's not what hype means".

Sweet blog, brah...want me to hype it up? You should team up with Adam Jackson for a bloggers collab...you two remind me of each other.

I think Hill Farmstead should make a beer named: (Insert Beer Name Here)

Well, how can something "live" up to expectations? I mean, beer isn't a living thing, right? Oh wait, you're suggesting that "living up to expectations" is a turn of phrase? Oh...

KBS only because I've gotten to try it before seeing all of the hype.

Most of the other beers mentioned are talked about way too much to live up to expectations and it usually ends up ruining the beer for me.

I've developed a completely irrational deep hatred for Two-hearted because of this site.

If you're claiming that this is invented phrase then I'm saying it's a stupid one and needs to die.

I'm saying that the phrase (invented or otherwise) "worth the hype" seems pretty clear to everyone else in the thread, but when you point out how it doesn't literally make sense, you also used a phrase that, when taken literally, doesn't make sense. But we all understand what you mean.

What he meant was "stop being a douche and play along with the phrase."

Not everything on the internet needs to be taken literally.

I'm clearly not taking the position that all metaphors are bad (I'm not physically taking a position! LOLOLOL). I'm taking the position that this one, beyond simply not making sense and being of recent origin (see here for an ngram comparison of the two, "worth the hype" is at 0 because it doesn't exist anywhere in the corpus), also has negative connotations, that the various things under discussion are "hyped", when in fact none (or almost none) of them are. I think this is a big problem in current discourse because it puts people in the position of having to defend themselves from accusations of "hyping", see recent threads about Ann and Livery.

    - Zombie Dust
    - My first and only (so far) Hill Farmstead: Everett...gotta be the best porter i've had to date
    - Nugget Nectar...oddly enough, I didn't even get to try a fresh one (rather a 3 month old bottle) and it still blew me away.
