For me it's Fresh Squeezed IPA. I'm a big fan of other Deschutes Beer but to me the citrus tastes artificial.

I feel much like you do on this one. I'll drink it and enjoy it (although at $19/sixer around here, it can be hard to enjoy THAT much), but somehow it just lets me down. I love citrusy IPAs with legitimate hop-borne grapefruit aroma, but actually adding grapefruit juice to the beer not only seems like cheating, it just doesn't produce a beer that's anything like what I'm hoping it will be. Alas, I notice another brewer introducing a grapefruit-infused PA or IPA almost every week. Maybe somebody will get it right.

They make a LOT of it for it to be "not really for the masses"..... I like heat in my food, but I'll stick to the base and grapefruit.

Has to be fresh to get the real pepper hit, if you age it too long it turns into Prarie Bomb. I don't get the fuss with Bomb, is very flat tasting, and it's $9 a bottle, I wouldn't buy it at half the price it's just not that good.

I like Red's. Bear Republic Red Rocket, Alesmith Evil Dead/Bloddy Valentine, Bruery Loakal Red, Lagunitas Lucky 13, Double Mountain IRA, Ninkasi Dawn of the Red, etc., etc.....Unless you meant "Redd's".

Don't Like: Stone Smoked Porter. Mmmmmmm.....ham.

Two Hearted is a good intro IPA...but once you start trying others, you realize what's out there.

    I don't get Oculto...the only beer I've dumped out after 2 sips...absolutely disgusting.

I'm with it. But to say you don't "get it" just makes the whole piling a beer through your throat a little more dramatic then I think it needs to be. Take no offense. I'm wrong about 12-17% of the opinions I give. This could very easily be one of them.

There are many beers that I "don't get"

Like the OP one is Lake Erie Monster. I just did not care for the mix of flavors.

I guess the beer that I really, really don't get is Two Hearted. I tried it several times and my reaction is always the same - "meh"

I've had a few coffee IPAs, and while I could appreciate that they were all very well made, I don't think it's a combination of flavors that particularly works.

White Oak Aged Jai Alai. Might as well eat a pickle. The dill is so overwhelming on my taste buds. Drainpoured every one I've tried. Also, I may have gotten an old batch but White Rajah was disgusting. Total malt bomb.

I strongly disagree. I can't stand the smell of pure dill. I cannot eat pickles. I mean, I definitely get the dill notes in this, but I love this beer so hard. In fact, I'm actually drinking it right this moment. True story.

Edit: Just re-read your post and saw the "drainpour" comment. That one truly hurt me...

    Does this require an explanation?

It's all subjective. I had one for the first time last week and after the third or fourth sip I was hooked.

Unlikely. Westbrook is very salty. Far more salty than Anderson Valley, Ritterguts, or Leipziger (though granted I don't know which you have had).

There's only a few "Black" IPAs I could see being an exception. Weez (on tap) from Maine Beer Company and Dark Penance from Founders. I feel that Darker Malts just don't help to profile Hop Acids.

There are several styles I can't appreciate fully because they don't appeal to my tastes. I won't say I don't "get" them. My tastes just differ from the style.

As far as individual beers, there have been many different beers that were, in my opinion, not well made for the style, or just plain horrible beers. The main culprit here is the only beer I've never been able to finish and had to pour out; Southern Tier's Crème Brulee.
