Same here, and having been there a few times I can sympathize with their concerns/complaints.

Most people don't realize that many parts of Germany are wine centric. The beer culture is primarily Bavaria.

My friends point out that Portland's green spaces limit the available land, so going up is what happens.

Jeff, my wife and I toured Bridgeport last June when we were in town for HomebrewCon. It was an interesting setup there.

    Cheers!

Someone mentioned in the Bridgeport thread that the landlord had tripled their rent. I wouldn't be at all surprised. I stopped by for the first time in more 15 years last Friday, and was just amazed at the transformation over in that part of town. It's completely unrecognizable from the area I used to visit regularly in the 90's.

    Yes!

On the first visit around 2000, the bar was in the unairconditioned lower level with the pizza ovens. We got our beer and pizza, and ate and drank on the loading dock which was much cooler.

On the next visit it was all very upscale by comparison, like the Pearl neighborhood. I like the old version better.

Yes, I did research the breweries; the one random stop I made was at Ecliptic, which was about a 5-minute walk from the one on my list - Breakaway. BTW: the streetcar is also good.
