I went to Beer Works in Hingham w/ my wife on Saturday night. We were both in the mood for fall beers and ordered their pumpkin ale. I wasn't expecting much and was blown away. I thought it was extremely well done and far exceeded my expectations. The reviews on here are kind so-so.

Anyone had this and think highly of it? Or had it and think lowly of it?

I had it yesterday at the Canal street location and wasnt especially impressed. I just wanted a Fall beer and it fit the bill. They did put cinnamon sugar all over the rim and I mentioned that you might want to ask people if they want it that way. While I didnt mind it at first, by the time I got to the end of it--I had enough. Of both the beer and the cinnamon sugar. Had a couple Boston Garden Goldens after that.

I liked the cinnamon and sugar. I alternated between taking sips w/ it and w/out it.

I haven't had the pumpkin specifically or been to the Hingham location in over a year, but the couple times I visited the Hingham location I was very impressed with the beer all-around. Generally (and perhaps unfairly), I don't expect much from Beer Works or John Harvard's. And since I don't expect much, I'm never really disappointed, but I'm rarely very impressed either. That wasn't the case in the Hingham Beer Works, though, where some of the beers were really wonderful. I'm assuming all locations use some of the same recipes and the like, but (at least as of a year ago) the brewer in Hingham was doing a lot of good things.

FWIW , I like the Hingham location a lot more than the Fenway location. The beer generally seems tastier.
