Beginner OG question

    Yes, because I have never experienced that...in fact, just the opposite for me

    Do you mean the mash (grains plus water) initially settled at 166F? Or do you mean that was the temperature of just the water, before mashing in?

    I heated up water to 166. Added that to mash tun and then added grains. I kept stiring water and grains until the temp dropped to 154

    @Purti1cc, looks like you got a lot of good advice here already. I just wanted to say that I brewed that same recipe when I was brand new to all grain, totally fucked up several stages of brew day, got a lower OG than expected, and the beer still turned out fantastic!

    Just smelled the beer and it smells absolutely amazing
