    It's a fine kit if you're just looking to give it a try, though you don't really need the carboy...as you can ferment in the bucket. It really depends on what you want out of a starter kit. The kit is sold through Midwest, which is also a good place to get your ingredients.

    Personally not a fan of plastic, much prefer glass carboys only. Less chance of critters hiding in there, and I much prefer being able to look in there without having to pop the lid open. Also, the bottle capper is the very cheap "black beauty" one that many people report problems with (broken bottles) so I would recommend a kit that has the "red baron" one instead.     Also, that kit does come with a recipe kit with all ingredients for your first batch. Keep in mind that you will still need a brew kettle and hydrometer.
