I'm heading to Dovetail this afternoon and figured I might as well stop at Begyle while I'm there. Planning to get their Kolsch (Boat Shoes) and some Flannel Pajamas, but I have zero familiarity with anything other than their core lineup. Looking for recommendations and/or opinions on their IPAs and barrel-aged beers.
I just wouldn't expect to be wow'd by anything. They do a lot of stuff that's fine, just nothing incredible. BA imperial pajamas is certainly a nice BA stout. I can't say I've ever had an IPA by them where I was thinking I need to get a 4 pack of it.
+1 on the BA Imperial Pajamas. A tad boozy, but VERY delicious. Tho, at 13.3% ABV, it's to be expected.
Got the Sent with Lasers (Sabro/Citra) and I’m pretty underwhelmed. Frankly, I’m starting to understand the Sabro bashing in the Hop Butcher thread. Split the can with a friend and even that felt like a chore to finish. Hoping for better results with the Kolsch and BA Pajamas.
Yeah, like I said, I've never really found any of their hops to be notable or worthwhile. I think you'll like the BA Pajamas though. It's just a very well rounded BA stout.
Closing the loop on this thread. I guess Begyle just isn’t my cup or tea (or beer) apparently. It’s all fine and mostly inoffensive, but everything just seems so “second tier” compared to other local offerings. True, I’m 3/4 into a bomber of BA Imp Pajamas, and it’s fine, but the components aren’t nearly as well-integrated as GI, Rev, and PW. Stuff like Lagunitas Willet, High West Victory at Sea, and some CW BA beers are a better choice for my palate. I’d probably put this slightly behind Drago and Dragon’s Milk.
It’s a nice second stop if you’re at Dovetail. The beer is alright, but they sure can draw a crowd on the weekends
