Belching Beaver Dammed Double IPA

    I first had this beer a bit over a year ago. It was abrasive, on the overly bitter side and okay by IIPA standards.

    I had it again just yesterday at the brewery and it was really good (pungent pine with citrus notes and a semi-bready malt backbone with some honey sweetness) - like this seems like a new recipe good.

    The differences do not seem solely attributable to freshness.

    Anyone know - did they change the recipe? Just curious.

    I have no idea but I hope they did. I had it once out of the bottle and thought it was too malty. Thought Hop Highway 78 was a lot better.

    I think all of their beers are better now than they were a year ago.

    i really love hop highway on tap, but it's not so good out of the bombers. actually, everything they bottle seems a bit off to me, am i alone in this?

    I agree belching beavers beers have improved, though I'm not aware of specific details as to why they improved, but I have my guesses. In my humble opinion, and for me personally, I try to give all beers multiple chances (2 or 3) before writing them off, especially from newer breweries. Sometimes I wait a while, and try just a taster the 2nd time around, but from my experiences, brewers get better and more efficient the more they make any given beer. Many tweak recipes, due to input, results, or availability of ingredients. Brewers also tend to get better at making beers on the system they use, the more they are working with it. Freshness, packaging, storage, of course all have affects on a beer too. Some breweries also lose a brewer to competition, let them go, and or hire assistant brewers, or new more experience brewers, who also can affect the beer for any combination of the reasons I already mentioned. Yeast effieceny & health also have their impacts. Anyhow, off the soapbox :stuck_out_tongue: glad they have improved.
