Over the past year I have been getting more and more into Belgian styles; Saisons specifically but Belgian Strong Pales and Triples as well. Now that my wife has gotten hooked as well, my issue has become my wallet getting banged out every Friday picking up 3-4 750mls at my local bottle shop that are often gone way too quickly. It has been well documented on many threads that 6pks are often a better value per oz when compared to bombers or 750s. So, my question to you guys is what quality Belgians can I find in 4pks or preferably 6 pks, that would at least last me a little longer than the 750s I have been buying? My preference would be the styles I listed above, but I am always open to trying other stuff and I am also open to either American craft or imports.

FYI...I already know about Dupont and Triple Karmeliet 4pks

Unibroue has some great products in four packs, La Fin Du Monde (Trippel), Trois Pistoles (BSDA) come to mind immediately. It is brewed in Canada but some of the best renditions of Belgians outside of Belgium itself. They are both around $8 a four here in KS. Boulevard Brewing does their Sixth Glass (Quad) and Tank 7 (Saison) in fours for $10 around here. New Belgium does their Trippel for around $7-8 for a sixer, depending on where you are as well as a Dubbel. Those are my goto Belgian-styled beers. I can't afford to buy imports all the time (ever, really).

Chimay, Duvel, Unibroue (Canada), Maredsous (brewed by Duvel) are some 4-packs that should be very easy to find. A bunch of others too.

As mentioned, the Unibroue selection is a great value. And I'll add others like Ommegang Abbey, Hennepin, etc. and Victory Helios.

St. Bernardus Tripel and Westmalle Tripel are great beers, but not as competitively priced.

Agreed. The St. Bernardus four packs are definitely not cheap, but are great in terms of value- the stuff is top notch. I pay $15-16 for the Prior 8 and a couple bucks more for the Abt 12.

Gouden Carolus also has a variety four-pack in that range, if you like to try different beers in a sitting.

Lower gravity, and hence cheaper, options may include Weyerbacher Verbotten (if you can get it), a really good Belgian-style Pale Ale, and don't overlook Leffe Brun, much better than the Blonde.

    There aren't many Belgian 6-packs, they're mostly 4-packs/singles or 750's.

But, for a good cheap solid Belgian 6-pack, check out Grimbergen Dubbel. (or Blonde, but I don't care for that one as much) It won't blow you away but at $11-$12 for a 6-pack, it's a solid authentic Belgian dubbel. Definitely worse out there for more money.

Give Ithaca Ground Break a try. A nice saison that comes in a six pack.

Kasteel comes in 4pk's at a pretty reasonable price point ($14.99 if memory serves).

A great tripel that is underrated IMO, but a bit on the strong 11% ABV side even though I found the alcohol to be well masked.

I love me some Hennepin, but it seems my local places only stock the 750s, very rarely do I see 4pks.

Thanks guys, I have definitely seen some of the ones suggested, others I will have to do some searching for, but I appreciate the input.

Hmm the 4-paks are in most bottle shops here, and broken up for single purchases if you so like at a few shops

I really think that the New Belguim Trippel and Abbey (dubble) are great. The Trippel is not really a stand out in my book for a technically great show of the style-- but it is totally awsome for sheer enjoyment. The Dubble is probably the best for the money, better than I usually expect from NB.

My bevmo recently got Leffe Brune in 6pks. Maybe your local store carries it?

    Cheers!

It's definitely a departure from the styles you mentioned, but if you want to expand your horizons give Duchesse de Bourgogne a try. It's fantastic, but so flavorful I could see it being difficult to finish a whole 750 (especially if you're not used to similar styles), so the smaller bottles in a four pack are perfect.

My local Whole Foods carries the Duchesse in 750s for $16 or $17, never saw 4pks. Ive never tried a Flanders Red and I have limited overall experience with other sour/tart beers (with the exception of the Saisons I have tried that lean towards the sour end) I have heard so much about this beer though, one day when I have a few extra bucks on me I will have to pull the trigger.

I've seen it both in four packs and 750s, but it probably varies by store and distributor, so you may or may not be able to find the smaller bottles. I usually see it for ~$18-20 per four pack, if I recall. It's a good place to start with sour beers, I think, and you may discover you love it. Cheers!

unibroe, omegang, and leffe bruin are the ones that have been mentioned...since you said you like a triple, try victory golden monkey - about $11 for a six pack.

My fav is either a delirium tremens or the leffe bruin for a 4/6 pack in terms of value
