"The 8 beers you should stop drinking"thread in the general forum got me wondering if Belgium has laws that prevents chemicals and additives being added to their beer such like Germany? I never realised stuff like msg and chemicals to aid head retention were used in beer.
That was an entertainingly ill-informed piece, wasn't it? Anyway. Belatedly spotted your question. I'm not aware of a law, and a lot of what are considered additives in Germany are standard fare, here -- sugar and fruit, for example, are crucial to some of the iconic styles. But that's not the point of your question, which is about icky stuff going in. It could be that I'm being fooled, but bottles do list ingredients so I choose to believe (ha) that they'd have to tell me if there was anything else in there. But I imagine that things like finings (again, what an unintentionally funny article that was) that don't end up in the final product need not be disclosed.
