I still see them occasionally, but couldn't tell you if they were old bottles or new bottles ...

Enjoying what is probably one of the best Belgian Dark Strong Ales brewed in the Western Hemisphere from Archetype in Asheville. Classic beautiful pour, tons of dark fruit esters from the yeast with a light body and each sip so very smooth. I just signed up for their releases as someone on the brewing team knows how to make very good Belgian brews!
    Cheers!

Heres a real nice Tripel from TF brewing. Great classic brew..a little sweeter than most but I like it. Real crisp and carbonated nicely.

In the past they used to come in 37.5, 75 CL and 1.5 L bottles. 37.5 disappeared, 33 cm was introduce. Difference between 33 CL and larger bottles is that 33 CL is filteren - and pasteurized?). Still great beer!

3F Braambes Oogst 2019: Blended lambic aged in Blackberries. Fruity, funky, soft lactic acidity up front, tart berry acidity on the finish with fruit leather tannins. Really tasty overall.

Duvel. A wonderful Belgian strong blond. Fruity, with a nice balance of sweetness and hops. Candy, a floral note, banana, and honey. Wonderful!

Brother Thelonious from North Coast. A Belgian style abbey ale. Haven't had one of these in many years. Poured at fridge temp. Poured aggressively, but I could only get a half inch of head. Very different from a typical Belgian dark ale! The nose is really nice. Fully of toffee, honey, bread, and red grapes. The taste is quite fruity, with a ton of malts that explode after a second in the mouth. Grapes, plums, figs, slight hops, leather, toffee, biscuits, creamy, and a hint of cinnamon. Very smooth and enjoyable.

A treat tonight. Stumbled upon this at a Total Wine a few months ago - it was the only one sitting there and didn't have a price. Glad I grabbed it! Gulden Draak 9000 aged in Calvados apple brandy barrels for 6 months. Comes in at 10.5% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp from a 750ml bottle. Pours a murky orange with substantial head (equal parts fluid to head in the glass). The head is a nice off-white with great lacing. The nose is sensual. Brandy, raisins, honey, sweet caramel, bread, biscuits, plums, and pears. Lovely.

The taste is complex and wonderful. Sweet candy, plum, honey, toffee, strawberry jam, brandy, grainy bread, and a nice clove note. A touch of woody oak comes through with some warming. Just a lovely integrated taste throughout. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and somewhat dry on the finish. The aftertaste is a mix of plum and toffee. Would love another bottle!

For anyone else in the Mid-Atlantic region - today I was driving back from a work trip up I-95 today and stopped at Stateline Liquors in Elkton, MD to stock up on some of the Belgian (and German & English) imports that they typically have that I don't see in PA.

Right now they have all of their selection of 3 Fonteinen bottles marked as 25% off for the rest of the month. Picked up bottles of the Oude Kriek and the Nocturne.

Funny, I saw that beer today at Stateline for the first time - but didn't pick it up as I don't always like Apple Brandy barrel aged beers.

They also had 5L mini-kegs of the regular Gulden Draak which I haven't seen before.

Bottled 2021 - best before end 2025 - enjoyed on 2/18/2023. Poured from a capped-and-corked 750mL bottle into my Brasseurs de Garde flute.

Ectoplasmic appearance! Clear apple green liquid with an active magnolia cap. Soapy/sticky lacing; fair retention.

Funky nose suffused with barnyard and botanical qualities. Floral/herbal and slightly cheesy.

Tart, intensely earthy/grassy with a lasting bitterness. Hints of sorrel and wormwood. White pepper emerges with a touch of funk and unripe pear. Long, dry finish with a crackery malt base. Quite unusual.

    Light-bodied, silky, and somewhat tannic.

Weird and refreshing table beer - less complex than I expected, though the recipe is quite a mystery!

Tripel Karmeliet. Someone posted Gouden Carolus triple before here, which I equally love.

Westmalle, Karmeliet or Gouden Carolus with a honorable mention to St Bernardus or Chimay Triple are IMO some of the best Triple produced.

I even bought a larger, 750ml bottle. Considering the ABV I’ll take my time and enjoy this treat quietly.
