What percentage of the grain bill was rye malt?
Is this a solely Brett fermented beer? You did not use a Saison yeast as well?

    Cheers!

Indeed, I have a dry sense of humor! But believe me that a true Belgian (I am not) would "never" drink from an improper glass! The glassware in a Belgian cafe that has a hundred or so beers is quite impressive. It also keeps the beer tenders busy cleaning glasses all day/night long.

But thank goodness the beer is wet! :beers:

    Cheers!

    I hear ya!

Below is something I posted a week ago in another thread:

I just gotta tell a story!

A few years ago my wife and I were on vacation in Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) and we visited the craft brewery Big Spruce. The first words out of her mouth as we entered was "You are not buying any glasses!". I was OK with this since I had no intention of buying a beer glass(es). As we settled up the bill my wife asked (in a non-sheepish voice): "Buy me a glass". So, we did indeed purchase a glass and this 'gift' brings be great joy in that every time I see her drinking a beer from it I say "Do you remember when you told me not to buy a beer glass?"

Below is a photo of that glass:

When I was living in Gent, we used to go to the "Hop Duvel" beer warehouse to purchase cases of beer (a lot!) They sold all of the correct beer glasses for something like 50 cents a glass. I have a lot of glasses...

Enjoyed a BBA version of a Tripel from Liability Brewing in Greenville, SC. Pretty solid taste wise but lacked the mouthfeel that i enjoy from the Style. It was a nice splurge. The brewery is pretty solid all around so will stop in the future.
    Cheers!

A domestic take on a Belgian strong pale, canned 10 months ago. I've enjoyed taxman in the past, this was good but not one of their better efforts.

Well it isn't pretty, not very often I see that much stuff floating around in my beer. I guess I should have deCANted better from the CAN @woodychandler It's very sweet overall with strong phenols. I get apples and pears cooked in syrup with hints of anise and black pepper. The 12% is evident but I wouldn't call it hot. Good, but not one I need to revisit.

Next time I go shopping I plan to revisit some of the classics I have neglected for too long. Hope to be back here with better beer.

Has anyone combined the two? I feel like I need a psychedelic snow globe in my life now:thinking_face:

The wife had a hankering for some tripel’s so I should have a few posts here. Revisiting St. Bernardus. Really nice banana and clove with a touch of black pepper. Cheers all!

Damn good. Perfect caramel sweetness with a touch of bittering and a relatively approachable abv.

    Tröegs Jovial Belgian-style Dubbel

The brewery verbiage lists stone fruit, toffee, chocolate, and molasses. I defintely get the molasses; for the rest my palate isn't that dialed-in so I'll take their word for it.

I'm not sure how many other dubbels I've had in my 30-odd years of beer enjoyment. Based on this one it's not my favorite style, which tells me I should try some others. You know, for research.

I hope you do some research, Jovial was probably the worst dubbel I've tried. St. Bernardus Pater 6 and Prior 8 are on my next shopping list.

Yep, at some point I'll seek out some well-regarded examples. One thing I like about these kinds of threads is it's easy to note beers that I want to try.

Westmalle Dubbel is a classic. Allagash used to make a really good one (for a non-Trappist take), but sadly discontinued it years ago.

Had dinner earlier tonight at Spinnerstown Hotel (Quakerstown, PA), a restaurant with a great beer selection. Ordered a bottle of 3 Fonteinen - Oude Geueze Cuvee Armand & Gaston. Season 17/18 Blend No. 80. So a bit more than 4 years old. Not a lot of tasting notes since I was eating dinner with my wife and some friends - but was very enjoyable. Bright fruity acidity, balanced with drier oakiness and mild funk. Complex, and paired very nicely with my Steak Au Poivre dinner, cutting through the richness of the food.
