Going back to Belgium this year but will be timing it so we'll be in Brussels the first weekend in September for Belgian Beer Weekend. I figured I'd start a thread to see if anyone else was going. And also was looking for any inside info on the event from people that have been before. Can't wait! -Mike
Been there and i must say its nice, a lot of breweries that have a spot there and sell their beers in smaller glasses. Be on time for buying coins because the line is sometimes very long, you have to buy a coin for the glass and then others for the beers. Its the best way to taste a lot of beers... i must say there are a lot of people from other countries at that moment. The brewery parade is something for great pictures....
I was going to mention that you should go to the dedication in the cathedral on the Friday morning, but I see that you've seen that very cool video posted in this forum, so you'll already know about it... pray for us. +1 on getting tokens early, before the crowds. Take a break and hit Fritland (best fries in town) for absorption at some point. Also, don't let this detract from the fun, but beware that the selection isn't a whale-hunter's paradise, just a nice selection of good beer in a fun environment.
Damn I'll be in Belgium the week before August 24-31st. Plan to get off the plane head straight to In de Verzekering, then down to the De Cam cafe, up to De Heeren and then to my hotel in Ghent. Hate to have to rent a car for this but seems to be my only choice.
Just realized that I'll be in Brussels and Leuven that week for work...good timing indeed. Any suggestions on whether to go Saturday or Sunday? I'm traveling solo so I'm not opposed to meeting people at the fest, but it'd be nice to have easy access to the beer tokens/tents. I've read that Saturday can become a little too busy.
I've been told to show up real early and buy your coins, even if you're not attending the fest right away. Getting close now!
