Belgian IPAs

Trebuchet. Because it's more Belgian-y than the Triomphe!

 

I liked both of those beers waaaay more than the rDev. Not sure why both of their ratings are so "low."

Damn people can't appreciate a good Belgian IPA!

 

The best Belgian IPA is kind of like the best game for the 2008 Detroit Lions.

 

Anchorage Bitter Monk or Pipeworks Glaucus.

 

So, you're implying that they all are terrible?

 

Pretty much. There are a few I'd consider to be passable, but I can't think of a single instance where they're as good as the sum of their parts (Belgian yeast + American hops).

 

Belgian IPAs may not be for everybody. I am a big fan of American style Belgian IPAs (beers brewed with Belgian yeast strains and American hops). IMHO, these two elements complement each other.

My favorites are Flying Dog Raging Bitch, Flying Dog Wildeman Farmhouse IPA, A Little Sumpin Sumpin Wild, Deschutes Chainbreaker, ….

Flying Dog's Wildeman is one of my faves, though it's not your typical BIPA. More like a farmhouse pale ale.

And yeah, Lil Sumpin Wild is great too.
