I love Tripels, and have almost always used Saaz, Hallertau and other nobles. But I was thinking of changing it up to some American fruity hops to see how it is. Citra, Amarillo, Centennial, etc.

My normal hop schedule for a Tripel is:
    1oz@60
    .5oz@30
    .5oz@10
    .5oz@5
    1oz@flameout

You ever do this? Would this just make the beer more of a Raging Bitch "Belgian style" IPA?

That already seems like a pretty hoppy tripel. However, Citra and Amarillo both have a nice fruitiness that might go well with the style. If your tripels already turn out on the peary/appley side, then either (or both) of those hops might work quite well indeed.

Pretty things makes a delicious hoppy tripel. Called fluffy white rabbits, i believe they might have some info on the site as far as what hops they use and maybe there is a clone recipe or two around.

what yeast and what are you expecting from the yeast?
I have done some ambitious beers by combining Belgian yeast with west coast power hops or NZ variety. it can work very well or be a disaster of uncontrolled fruits and esters.

Sounds like you're going for something like La Rulles triple.

    Warrior and Amarillo, Orval yeast.

I agree! I'm hoping to get MORE fruit!

I normally use WY 3787, but have used 1388, 1762 and Unibroue too. I age my bottles at least 4 months before drinking.

ETA: I also have access to a good amount of Galaxy hops.

I was never able to make 3787 work well for me; 1214 gave me better results. 'Course, that could be all brewer-related, and no fault of the yeast.

I brewed a Galaxy hopped tripel last fall that came out fantastic. 3787 was the yeast, and I believe the hop schedule was

    .25oz FWH
    .5oz @ 15 minutes left
    1.25oz @ flameout
    1oz dryhop

I've been thinking the same thing for a triple. This is what I came up with.

    Tangerine Triple ( for 18 gallons )

    45 lbs pilsen
    3 lbs cara 8
    3 lbs table sugar
    3 oz summit 60 min
    2 oz saaz 15 min
    3 oz summit 1 min

    Westmalle yeast ( wyeast 3787)

    40 ibu's

It will be a month until I brew it, I'm looking forward to this one.

Goose Island's The Ogden is great. They dry hop it with Citra, but I think it is otherwise brewed like a traditional tripel. It melded together so well.
