My favorite festival of the year too. Gotta be there. Amazing what local breweries do with the Belgian yeast.

List of breweries in the link above, but I haven't seen a beer list yet.

How is bottle sharing at festivals looked upon here in the States? I loved that you could bring whatever beer you wanted to any bar or festival in Belgium.

Can't answer definitively but I can't imagine it would go over very well. At worst you'd be kicked out for such a thing. Every aspect of alcohol is heavily regulated here.

Attitudes differ state-to-state but in Washington don't even think about it.

Yeah, it's a non-starter. You could set up something for before or after, but actually at the fest? No F'ing way.

I kind of figured. It's too bad it's that uptight.

Washington actually has pretty loose alcohol laws. But, the LMCB likes to know who's pouring the beer. Bartenders/servers have to get a permit to serve. If you let folks open their own bottles in public, there's no "control" over how intoxicated people get. Plus, at a fest, the point is to get folks to drink the beers of the participating breweries, so event organizers wouldn't be inclined to allow it.

I'm clearly a WA native, as I don't understand the need for bottle shares at official events where you're already drinking beer.

I actually love that de Garde got rid of the bottle share table. It was slightly entertaining watching the vultures hang out all day waiting to pounce on a bottle, but man, what a shit show.

Got confirmation a few minutes ago, I'll be there both sessions. Swing by the BB booth and say hi!

I've noticed some of the relaxed laws. I like the bar/bottleshop combos and the growler fills.
I'm not talking about anything formal. I'd always bring a good bottle to share with the hardcore tickers who went to every event, say hello and have a few sips of whatever they'd opened, and get back to the festival. Never many vultures although I had one guy go all Menace II Society crackhead on me when he saw I had a DFH 120.

Yeah, the bottle share while waiting in line is just as foreign to me.

    [shrug]

Also, venues risk losing their liquor license when unauthorized people start cracking stuff open.

You lost me at "waiting in line." These beer fests sound more unappealing with each post.

I'm just guessing here, but I think Mantra means folks who crack open bottles while waiting for the event to start, which happens some places. Once the doors to the fest open, there's usually not much of a wait to get the beers. Except at the Black Raven booth, they always have the biggest line at any WA fest.

Beer list looks great. Wish I could justify spending the money on one!
