In 1985, Larry Bell set out on a quest for better beer with his 15-gallon soup pot.

Thirty years later, we will release our 30th Anniversary Ale.

An American Imperial Stout, Bell’s 30th Anniversary Ale is also a nod to another beer and one of the earliest examples of the style released here in the United States, Bell’s Expedition Stout.

“This beer is a testament to three-plus decades of hard-work. It honors all that has helped us get to this point – hard work, quality and authenticity,” said Larry Bell, Bell’s President and Founder.

“It reminds us of where we’ve been, how we’ve grown over the years, the challenges we’ve faced and at the same time, looks forward to what comes next,” he added.

Flavors of dark chocolate and fruit meld to create a full-bodied, roasty stout.

A fair amount of Polaris hops lend a brightness and a nice character that will help carry the beer in its early stages making it incredibly drinkable and interesting. Malt characteristics will continue to develop over time, so that beer drinkers who choose to cellar it can enjoy the beer for years to come.

This big, strong celebratory beer (11% ABV) will be released in September coinciding with our 30th anniversary celebration.

It will be available in bottles (6-packs) and on draught. The label will feature a special seal designed and made specifically to commemorate and celebrate our anniversary.

    Is it barrel-aged?

Hopefully not, I'd like to try it and I refuse to chase trucks, wait in long lines, etc.

That's fine! I hope it's nothing like Expedition Stout. It's more of a Black DIPA, than an Imperial Stout.

It gets better with age. Give it 2 or 3 years, it's worth the wait.

Hope they made a good amount. Would like to get a 6 pack instead of just a bottle or two like the limited Planets.

I was thinking the same thing, and hoping it'll be available at the General Store the weekend of their Funvitational.

I have to believe it will be available during that weekend. What I'm really hoping for is that it's priced in the General Store like all of the Planets series.

How is Bell's distro on these types of releases? Bells started distro in my area of SoCal in February. We got a very small amount of hopslam (fine by me) but haven't seen any planet series, that I am aware of. Curious if it will make it way out here. I sure hope so though because I love a good imperial stout.

Amen. Expedition is still the most bitter beer I've had to date. I'll probably pick up 2 bottles

Hard to say at this point since there isn't any info on the amount being brewed but I would guess your area will see something. Definitely more plentiful than Black Note.

Looking forward to every store selling 1-2 bottles p/p because it looks rare and says "anniversary" on it.

Looking forward to this as well. If the 1-2 bottle limits are a problem, pay a visit to the brewery (assuming you are in MI). I'm not on board with the negatives toward Expedition. I think it's a great beer that gets really good with some time on it. If it's too hoppy for you, have patience and let it sit. It sounds like the 30th ani ale will have some legs on it too.

    Hi there!

The plan is for 30th Anniversary Ale to make it to all the states we distribute to. Depending on shipping schedules, it should make it out to the market late August through the first few weeks of September.

    See ya at Funvitational, Core42!
