that article is terrible and does nothing to explain why they switched up events. if they wanted to make it for charity, why not just have eccentric day with a charity tie-in? the article laments the loss of the day and says that locals are upset, so wtf? it doesn't strike me as an event which has a large up-front investment or could do damage in any way to the brewery.

there has got to be more to this that i'm not understanding. i looked at reddit, comments on news posts, etc. and it's just a bunch of pissed off people. how is this at all good for business?

More often than not, those Eccentric Ale were simply not very good. The last one was a Texas Margarita style IPA and the one before that was a Chardonnay BA Sour. Definitely eccentric. But not something I want to spend my money on.

    I'm not holding my breath.

I don't understand this either. Holding one doesn't prevent the other, and they could both have been combined just as easily.

Last year's lineup was perfectly serviceable, although they've had some off-the-wall combinations. Someone with a better memory than me can weight in--I think there was a blend with cereals or donuts one year?

Somehow left this one off of my mega reply. I'm of two minds here. I am definitely not interested in a hagiographic telling of Larry Bell's life and times! Much as I lamented (and still lament) the sale, I get the sense that folks are generally ... ok? and the much-feared New Bell's Belgium merger hasn't happened (yet).

I think @hopfenunmaltz was speaking about Eccentric Day specifically & since Eccentric Day seemed to be his pride & joy, I agree. Larry loved getting heavily sauced & putting on a great party which it was so once he left the love for Eccentric Day left too

I remember they threw a stupid pizza in one year.

His costumes were also great, and he would change costumes. The food selection was also great.

Some tidbits that I picked up from Facebook.

HopSlam is dropping on January 7th.

A Throwback Variety Pack is making a release at the General Store this Friday, Dec. 19th! It'll feature Official, Best Brown, Smitten, and Two Hearted. This pack will also see a national distro after the first of the year.

Post sale what I’ve seen here is discontinuation of some lines from distribution including Great Lakes only beer like Hopsolution. This fall I visited the Eccentric Cafe and it was as nice as ever with good food and a good tap list. Sad that I have to drive to Kalamazoo to buy certain beers (Quiannan Falls, Best Brown) but such is life.
