While out and about today I stopped at 4 different liquor/beer stores looking for various beers. I hadn't seen any of the new Bell's cans yet so while I wasn't actively looking for them, I was looking over some other offerings and saw them on the shelf. $7.99...not bad....cheap! Went to grab some and realized they were 4 packs. Wait a minute....4-packs?!? I was under the impression that cans were cheaper to package, transport, etc. but the 6-packs of bottles on the shelves were $9.99 (granted it's older stock) and the cans are the equivalent of $12 a six-pack? Maybe it's just me but it surprised me at the price increase for cans...

EDIT- DERP! I just did some more research and found out they're 16 oz. cans. Sorry...I'm stupid.
    Move along...nothing to read here....

They are 16 ounce cans, so the cans are $7.99 per 64 ounce while the bottles are $9.99 per 72 ounces. Given that, the cans are cheaper per ounce.

Cans are 16oz, bottles are 12oz, so by oz it equals

    16oz x 4cans = 64oz / 7.99 = .125 per oz
    12oz x 6btls =72oz / 9.99 = .139 per oz

Yep...I edited my thread. My old age and lack of reading glasses let me see the big ol' price on the shelf, but not the itty bitty 16 oz. designation on the boxes.

Cans are definitely not cheaper to package if you include initial investment. This is the reason why there are fewer breweries canning.

I understand that the initial investment in the equipment is higher but from what I understand that can be made back within a couple/few years with the savings on materials cost, shipping, etc. Plus they're easier to recycle, easier to cool, more universally accepted at parks and waterways, and better for the beer.
Unfortunately a lot of the smaller breweries aren't able to get past that initial investment... but I think you'll see more and more breweries continue to switch to or offer cans.

That's the majority of the prices around here, which is more than good. Cost to store is just over $6 a 4pack.

I'm guessing it did, not sure how long they'd be fine with making only 60¢/4 pack

I think Meijers specials change on Wednesdays so I'll probably just go tonight and check.

I talked to a Bell's rep last thursday and he said don't expect to see that type of sale again this year.

Prices went back up, still an affordable four pack but just not as spectacular of a deal.

Damn, sucks I missed it. Wasn't even aware of the cans until today.

What's the price now? The best I've found so far is 8.99 at Kroger.

Speaking of Kroger I was at the Rochester store picking up peanut butter and they have the 4 packs on sale for 6.99 with card. I imagine that's all the stores but I am unsure.
