Gotta fill the grocery store shelves. These big regional breweries have contracts to oblige.

The one thing I hate about that is the playing shelf Tetris to make room for 5+ products that aren't in normal rotation. Of course, I used to take space away from BMC and get yelled at :grimacing:

This is the interesting part. Grocery stores will also have room limitations and succumb to BMC bulldogging them for dominant placements. At the same time, some CO breweries are gearing up to produce more (see: Renegade). Will they get pushed out by regionals and the big boys? How many different breweries will stay on a grocery shelf? Will a grocery carry an entire line from a brewery, or just the beers that sell well? Will breweries like Russian River still demand certain sales criteria from each grocery store in order to carry their stuff? And what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

I think they might gather dust like most other regional brewer SKU's, BUT I do think Bells is a big enough name with enough casual clout where they'll sell better than just about anyone else entering our market. Two Hearted was voted the #1 beer by Zymurgy readers. That may not mean much in the geeky world, but it's telling based upon how they calculate those rankings. Bells also tends to excel based around actual flagship sales and not just seasonal BA stout hype.

Yeungling might be the only other large distro that could make the same type of legit push into our market.

The Super Soopers in Castle Rock recently started in on the full strength bandwagon. it seems they don't carry the entire portfolio of a brewery, the hot sellers and a mixed 12 pack seem to be their M.O. I looked at some Melvin in passing, the first week they were selling full strength beer and the Melvin was over two months old. If this is their business plan, while they may grab the wine and spirits crowd, other than the occasional lazy consumer buying beer, I don't see this working out for them in the end.

Surprised Renegade is gearing up to produce more...their beer isn't very good (says me). I can't think of any of their beers that's outstanding.

I think they have a few good beers, but not many I'd buy ahead of anyone else's. That Pancakes Porter is the only one I buy regularly. It's pastry on a budget.

Yah, it won't be until they can sell wine when things start to get crazy. Not sure, but I think the law stops at wine, no liquor. ??

Yeah, I read this wrong. Hope were high for Founders. Some of Bells stuff is ok but I doubt much will sell well here.

I used to like Hammer and Sickle RIS, but this new "Hammer" doesn't taste as good without the Russian collusion.

Yuengling isn’t in any hurry to get to Colorado. I hear what you are saying, but their sales on the East Coast justify the smaller footprint. Just tried Yuengling Golden Pilsner, pretty nice. It would find its way into my summer rotation, if I could get it on a regular basis.

Yeah, I don't think they have any intention of coming here, I just think they probably could. There are very few beers that have a fanatical following like they do. Both full-on macro drinkers and even long-term craft drinkers seem to dig it, too. That's my savior when I'm visiting family down south. I can get at least 1-2 Yuengling beers at any gas station or grocery store I see.

Of their line-up, I really like the porter and black and tan. Kind of an obscure thing - they're made with 100% lager yeast. It's almost like a schwarzbier...but thicker and roastier. The black and tan could probably even be entered as one in competition.

Love love love the Black & Tan!
Heading home to PA for a wedding this weekend and certainly will be tracking some of those down... I’m sure I’ll end up drinking 20 lagers, but I can honestly take it or leave it.

Might as well change the name of this thread to “Yuengling, (not) Coming This Fall”

If yuengling had made it out to Colorado, there's a decent chance I might not have ever gotten into craft beer.
