I was excited to be able to try their Two Hearted Ale last year when my brother brought some back from Michigan. It made me realize how fortunate I am to have access to West Coast IPA's here.

Now that Bell's has arrived in California, I have picked up 2 6-packs of Expedition Stout. Wow. I love it. Wow. Better than Narwhal. Better than Ten Fidy. So much going on. That is all.

Was that a slight with "It made me realize how fortunate I am to have access to West Cost IPA's here."?

Wait until they get some age on it. Just had one bottles 10/12. I might still prefer ten fidy but I could see plenty of people liking expedition more.

Just saw it hit Total Wine for $15.99, what a great deal on a six pack of imperial stout of that quality.

The first time I tried the Expedition was actually in a side-by-side blind taste test with Ten Fidy. I loved the aroma and the deep creamy chocolate sweetness of the Ten Fidy, but the subtle complexities of the Expedition kept drawing me in for more.

 Yes, but that's just my opinion and (biased) preference of course. What I came to realize after having Founder's Centennial, Founder'a Breakfast Stout, and Bell's Two Hearted is that everyone has access to primo beer. It'a all just preference.

I just grabbed a six pack as well, first thing I thought of when I tried it was Ten Fidy. Now Ten Fidy and Expedition are the two best non BA, easily attainable, big stouts out there....IMHO.

I love expedition stout, but the aroma on it fresh is terrible. Too much alcohol in flavor as well, definitely needs to sit a bit but then is fantastic.

Maybe I will try sitting on it a while next time - definitely the observations I had when I got it before.

Had expedition stout about a year ago(no idea how old it was), got it from ramirez in pico and it was really good. Just had a fresh one and it definitely needs some time. Same experience with ten fiddy, both beers are great with some time on them.

I agree. I stocked up this Winter when they were 13$/6 for a few weeks , and have about 40 of them.

And I dare to say, I agree that it might be better than Ten FIDY.

    It's really the only Bell's I enjoy.

Hmm, I passed this up the other day at Total Wine — mostly because Two Hearted was so disappointing it put me off Bell's — will have to go back and give it a try.

Third coast is legit too. The probablem with two hearted is it just doesn't compare to the a lot of
    west coast IPAs.

The problem with Expedition is that a lot of people these days write off anything that's not barrel aged so fantastic imperial stouts are of no consequence to them. Couple that with the fact that it's an off-the-shelf product, you're left with the makings of a beer that receives far less fanfare than it should.

expedition is my all time favorite non barrel aged stout and honestly better than most BA or adjunct stouts. i highly suggest setting some aside for extended aging as Bells says its shelf life is unlimited. ive had it as old as 6 years and it is just beautiful. also i saw someone mention 3rd Coast Old Ale and i highly recommend that one as well.

Had an expedition with three years on it about a week ago. Sooo complex and amazing. I drank half of it and poured a little decaffinato intenso in the other half - delicious!

I've gotta try my sixer from TW to compare fresh
