Expedition Stout will age for a lot of years. That being said, it depends on how it was stored; the beer could be anywhere from divine to not-so-hot at this point.

From my personal experience with the 2009 batch, it seems that the roast really comes out. I like them, but I can see how the roast could get in the way. I'd have to check, but I know I have some December '09 bottles.

I had a Dec. '10 about 3 weeks back and it was very tasty. I can't really recall how it's changed since fresh but I really enjoyed the 2010 I had recently. I have a case of it - a 6pak of the 2010's are up for grabs in the Beer Trading forums....

buy the '09 and let us know how it is!

If by some you mean more than one, then open one now and put some in the cellar. This one ages like a champ and if it was handled properly up to this point, you have a two year head start on aging them. See if you can hold out for 4 or 5 years or more.

The '09 is drinking really good. I've done a 10yr old vertical of this and have a 15yr vertical of this. An unlimited shelf life for the best cellaring stout of all time. The older the better it gets. 2009 is drinking phenomenal, but at least 5yrs old is where its really at!

Found some '07 on the shelf recently (a whole 6 pack), and it was drinking like a champ. Trying not to drink the rest of'em... it's hard.

I had a batch #9971 (bottled September 13, 2010) last night. Mellowed a little from the fresh burn, nice chocolate note in the middle, ended on a bittersweet coffee taste. Delicious.

I'd imagine the 2009 would be just fine.

It tasted pretty much like this. Def liked the chocolate and the bitterness at the end. Could've done with a little less burnt flavor but overall it was pretty damn tasty. Can't wait to see what a couple of more years will do.

Found some aged Expedition stouts in my cellar last night. Will have to check the batch numbers to figure out the years. Excited to see what these are like they might be 2007, or older.

7740, and 8145 for the expedition stout.

    Dec 2006, and September 2007

Also forgot about the batch 7,000 I still had back there. Still have a 6pk of 9000 too.

Just got an '04-'09 Expedition vertical from a very good friend. Waiting for a group tasting opportunity...may be awhile, but I will try to remember to post here after. Also, that batch 9000 is drinking incredibly right now!!

Just had a 2010 and it's drinking fantastic still had some slight booziness but it mellowed out quite a bit. Rich chocolate, licorice, coffee, rich roasted malts, had a little bit of a malty sweetness to it too
