$15 for sixer of Sculpin is ridiculous, $18 for a sixer of Hopslam is fair. Sculpin isn't in the same ballpark as Hopslam, it's not even the same sport!

Hopslam is rated 98, and Sculpin is rated 97.

Ratings aren't everything....but it is one piece of data.

Don't let objective evidence or intelligent discussion of the beers get in the way of your homerism though.

Serious price-gouging taking place in Philly. I paid $29 for a sixer in center city. I saw that another store was selling 2 cans per person at $6 each. They sold out. Does anyone know what the Foodery is/was charging? I heard $40/sixer. They aren't answering people's question on facebook about the pricing...

...and please make a conscious effort to curb the stupidity. Inflating prices for the rest of us poor shlubs isn't helping anyone, it's only boosting egos

Got mine earlier this week. $21.99, which is obviously a lot for a sixer. I wanted to come here and post that it's over priced and over hyped. But it's not. It's a beautifully balanced blend of hoppy goodness, honey and a creamy malt body. What a brewing masterpiece! Would pay $21.99 all year long if it was available. Love it.

I enjoy HopSlam every year. It is worth the hype.

Prices are hiked high in order to slow down purchases, which allows the beer to fall into the hands of the people who really want it rather than those with passing curiosity. The other option is to keep the beer hidden behind the counter and gauge whether the customer requesting is worthy of it.

    Bottle shops use both approaches.

Your snark is pretty weak. Yes, I'm from Michigan, which is arguably one of the best producers of craft beer in the country and said beers are readily available to me for the most part. I was EXTREMELY excited to try Sculpin when it finally hit our state late last year. After my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd sip I couldn't help but think..." god damn, there's tons of better Michigan/non Michigan IPAs than this " If that makes me a homer then so be it

How about selling it at a fair price at first come first serve? Seems to work fine around my area. I'm glad I don't shop at any stores practicing the tactics you mention. And I have no plans to either.

I finally got to try some Hopslam. As somewhat of a craft beer newbie(newbie to BA)...I enjoyed it very much. I have had the fortunate privilege of drinking other amazing beers such as Heady, Sip of Sunshine, Julius, Pliney the Elder..etc...etc... and this stuff ranks up there with them. I see alot of people comparing this beer to other IPAs and it's not fair! It's different than them, but totally worth it. I scooped up four other cans to go individually in Philly yesterday at $5 a piece. I'll be happy once it arrives in NJ. The price just isn't fair!

Overall, it's totally worth the hype and scooped up some other great brews. To boot, I stumbled into Pliney the Elder at Monks Cafe. Had two of those along with a Hill Farmstead Black IPA. I'd say it was a pretty good day.

Cheers to all. Crack your hopslams. If you don't want them, I'll take them.

Where was this? I picked it up at Kroger (on Staples Mill) last night for $17.99. There were still two cases left after I grabbed mine if anyone is looking for some in Richmond.

Because people can't take off work to track down a beer or chase trucks, if they work an 8-5.

That being said, I don't go to any bottle shops or stores that charge more than $1.00 above state minimum.
